Beverly Hillyer Obituary

March 9, 1949 - May 22, 2005

Beverly June Hillyer was born on March 9, 1949, in Vallejo, Calif., to the union of James and Alberta Petty.

A longtime resident of Vallejo, she attended the Vallejo public schools and graduated from Vallejo Senior High School in 1967. Seeking a career opportunity, Beverly joined Pacific Bell in 1970 where she retired in 2000 with 30 years of service. During her time at Pacific Bell, Beverly won many awards and company trips for her outstanding sales and performance. After her retirement, Beverly enjoyed visiting with her former co-workers, church family and family members. She later began a new career with Caldwell Bankers.

In 1968, Beverly married Wessie T. Lewis, Jr. and to this union was born two lovely daughters, Crystal Alberta and Mashinda Tiffany Lewis.

In her early years, Beverly joined the Primitive Baptist Church under the leadership of Elder L.O. Higgs and later under Elder Curtis Nelson. She later joined the Corinthian Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Elder B.T. Turner. While there, she faithfully taught in Sunday School for the Women and Youth Classes, served with the Mission Department and served on the Usher Board. Being a believer in education, Beverly participated in obtaining scholarships for worthy students.

In 1984, Beverly was united in holy matrimony to Saint E. Hillyer. They were married for over 20 years.

Beverly is preceded in death by her mother Alberta Petty and her father, James Petty; her three brothers, August Claibourn, Wayne Claibourn and James Petty Jr.; and her sister, Maxine Claibourn.

She leaves to cherish her memories her loving husband Saint E. Hillyer; her daughters, Crystal Alberta Lewis of Vallejo, Mashinda Tiffany Lewis of San Leandro; her stepdaughter Shania Farr of Vacaville; five sisters, Marcela (Richard) Jackson of San Francisco, Shirley (Lee) Lofton of Vallejo, Adrew (Scooter) Brown of Georgia, Barbara "Honey" (James) and Rochelle "Chic" Petty of Vallejo; and two brothers, Walter Claibourn of Texas and Ricky Petty of Vallejo. She also leaves her grandchildren, Malik Wakins, Faythe Watkins-Lewis, Reginald Good Joint Lewis, Kyh Williams, Sharde Hillyer, Kahlil Farr, and a host of other family and friends.

Beverly loved the Lord with all of her heart and served him faithfully while here on earth. She took every opportunity available to her to share the goodness and love of Jesus with others. Although the light of her life has been extinguished, her light will continue to shine through her family and friends, and the lives of everyone she touched.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. today at Old Path Miracle Cathedral, Vallejo. Burial will be at Sunrise Memorial Cemetery, Vallejo. Arrangements were under the direction of Cooley & Riolo Mortuary, Inc., Vallejo.
