My mother just called to tell me "Mr. Porter" passed away. I have lived on Dogwood St. in Lenoir for 18 years now and Mr. Porter lived across the street. I absolutely hated it when he moved some years ago. I have missed him and thought about him often. His passing is a great loss to this community. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.

I am so sorry for your loss. My mother's eyes would light up when David would come to visit her. They got along so well and shared so many fond memories of days past and laughed and laughed. We all loved to see David come to visit! He was a truly nice, caring man and always sent flowers to my mom on her birthday. He called her just a couple weeks ago to check on her and always sounded positive and upbeat. Myself, my husband, and my daughters all loved David!

I am so sorry for the loss of David. He was one of my closest friends for many years. We went all through school together from first grade on. We lost touch until my own mother's funeral (Hazel Mooney) in 1989, and at that time returned to Lenoir to bury her. David was there! We had several visits together in the ensuing years and have kept in touch often ever since. As I live in Philadelphia, I have not seen him in a while but spoke to him several weeks ago and I am so sad about your loss. He was very special to me and I will surely miss him.
