James Marks Obituary

Aug. 27, 1929 - Nov. 17, 2014

James Edwin Marks, 85, passed away Monday in a local care home following a long illness. He was born in Lansing, Michigan and has been a Benicia resident for the past 29 years. Jim earned his Bachelors Degree in Accounting from San Diego State and his Masters Degree from USC. He worked as an Accountant and was former CFO of Surety Bank before retiring in 1991. After retiring, he worked and taught for H&R Block until he was 80 years old.

Jim was a veteran of the Korean War and the United States Marine Corp from 1951-1953. He was a member of St. Dominic's Church and was active with the Boys Scouts of America. His hobbies included gardening, collecting stamps and coins, fishing, (including a trip to Mexico where he caught a marlin) and following the San Francisco Giants.

Jim is survived by Ruth, his wife of the past 64 years; daughter, Diana Marks; sons, Stephen, James and John (Cassie) Marks; brother, Richard (Barbara) Marks; grandchildren, Jennifer, Michael and Hannah; and his great grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Nathan, Luke and Peyton. He was preceded in death by his brother, Charles Marks.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held 11 a.m. Friday at St. Dominic's Church. Burial will be private at All Souls Cemetery. Family prefers donations to St. Dominic's Church.
