Samuel Brooks Obituary
March 18, 1941 - Jan. 31, 2012
Samuel Addison Brooks was born in Vicksburg, Miss., on March 18, 1941 to Bernice Jones and Alfred Brooks. The family moved to Vallejo, Calif., when he was very young. His mother later married Elex Cook.
He married Gwendolyn Swann on April 6, 1962 and they had two children, Degina and Samuel (both now deceased).
Reverend Samuel A. Brooks began a radio ministry in 1969 on KNBA in Vallejo and was currently broadcasting gospel programs on KEST 1450 AM out of San Francisco. In addition to the radio ministry, he co-hosted the "Gospel Search" program on television. He was an associate minister at the Jesus Christ is Lord Church in Daly City under the founder and Pastor, the Rev. Bobby K. Singh.
After preaching on street corners, in parks, on fairgrounds, as well as in churches in Vallejo, across California, and the United States for many years as an evangelist, Rev. Brooks filed papers with the state of California to incorporate the ministry. After much prayer, he received direction from the Lord to name the ministry "I AM THAT I AM."
Rev. Brooks leaves to cherish his loving memories his immediate and extended family, Gwendolyn Brooks; daughter, Kelli Skinner-Brooks; grandsons, Christopher Skinner and Samuel Jamond Oates; granddaughters, Jametra G. Oates and Latifah D. Brooks; great-granddaughters, Tameka, Jamaya and Jameia; brother, Willard; aunt, Ethel; nieces; nephews; cousins, and a host of friends and church members. Associated families: Jones, Anderson, Morris, Buchanans and Gallaghers.
Visitation were held Friday, Feb. 10, at Cooley
& Riolo Mortuary, 505 Couch St., Vallejo. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. today, Feb. 11, at Union Baptist Church, 128 Encerti Ave., Vallejo. Private interment will be held Monday, Feb. 13, at Skyview Memorial Lawn, 200 Rollingwood Drive, Vallejo.

My Dear SAM UR HOME ! I was with u in BERKLEY HANDING OUT TRACTS WHILE YOU PREACHED. I WAS SCARED TO DEATH. WE WERE TOGATHER IN THE CAR ON ANOTHER OCCASiON WHEN THE HOLY SPIRIT ENGULFED THE VEHICLE AN WE HAD TO PULL OVER FROM THE POWER.WHEN I LEFT FOR OREGON U TOLD ME EVERYTIME MY EYE LID FLICKERED YOU WOULD BE PRAYING FOR ME AND EVERYTIME IT DID I THOT OF OUR TIME TOGATHER AND YOUR DEVOTION.NEVER GOT TO MEETMYOUR Family but I'LL BET THERE AS KIND AS YOU..I EXTEND GODS BLESSINGS TO THEM WITH MY LOVE THRU CHRIST OUR ETERNAL SAVIOUR . Pastor brooks is what I called you in church. But you were more than that you were a father to you naive girl who didn't have one. I believe God placed you in life and I'm forever grateful. I was shocked to hear of your passing and didn't get a chance to say goodbye. I left to go to medical school and haven't been able to make it back. However, while away I always remembered you and always spoke of you. I will always keep you in my heart.

this is my uncle sonny.. he will will be missed but never forgotten... his mother , father and step father all proceeded him in death along with his 2 sisters juanita pettus and amy hawthorne... he was the last child to pass from alfred and bernice... he still has a brother ( willard) who is from his fathers union to mrs brooks... there are several nieces and nephews from his sisters that will cherish his memories... kelly skinner is the last of his children... GONE BUT NEVER FORGOTTEN.... SO LONG UNCLE SONNY......
