A. Sheldon Glahn

A. Sheldon Glahn, 88, of Forty Fort, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning, June 21, 2009, surrounded by his family at Hospice Community Care, Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre.
His wife is the former Ruth Edwards. Together, Sheldon and Ruth would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on August 2, 2009.
Born in Forty Fort, on November 27, 1920, Sheldon was a son of the late Adolph H. and Mary M. (Cooper) Glahn. A life resident of Forty Fort, he was a graduate of the former Forty Fort High School. He went on to further his education at the former Wilkes-Barre Business College, Penn State University and Luzerne County Community College.
A U.S. Army veteran, Sheldon served his country honorably during World War II. During his time of service, Sheldon was stationed with the 4th Cargo Combat Group, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater. Upon his honorable discharge, Sheldon attained the rank of Sergeant.
Since 1975, Sheldon was employed as a building inspector and code enforcement officer. He worked for the boroughs of Forty Fort, Swoyersville and other surrounding municipalities. He was active in his profession up until his 87th year.
He served as a member of the Forty Fort Borough Council from 1962 to 1968 and served as the mayor of Forty Fort in 1983, finishing the term of the previous mayor.
Mr. Glahn was an elder and deacon of the Presbyterian Church. He was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church, Dallas. Also, he was a lifetime member of the Forty Fort Fire Department.
In the 1950s, Sheldon held the position of Scout master for Boy Scout Troop 123, Forty Fort. During the Agnes Flood of 1972, Sheldon was the Disaster Relief Chairman of the West Side for the American Red Cross.
An avid volunteer for the Red Cross, Sheldon received the Clara Barton Award in 1985, the highest commendation for volunteerism from the Red Cross.
Sheldon will forever be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
In addition to his parents, Sheldon was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters.
In addition to his wife, Ruth, Sheldon is also survived by his son, Sheldon E. Glahn, and his wife, Bonnie, Kingston; grandchildren Bryan Glahn and his wife, Jennifer; April Eckert and her husband, Mark; nieces and nephews.
Relatives and Friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Presbyterian Church, 105 Irem Road, Dallas, with the Rev. Roger E. Griffith, his pastor, officiating. Interment will follow in Wyoming Cemetery, Wyoming, where military honors will be accorded. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Wroblewski Funeral Home Inc., 1442 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, and on Wednesday, from 10 to 11 a.m., at the church.
The family requests that flowers be omitted.
