HUNLOCK CREEK — Albert Finarelli Jr., 70, of Hunlock Creek, passed away peacefully on Monday, Jan. 26, 2015, at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Born in Wilkes-Barre, Al was a son of the late Albert Sr. and Helen Wysocki-Finarelli. He was a 1962 graduate of St. Nicholas High School, Wilkes-Barre, and attended King's College, Wilkes-Barre, and Penn State University, State College.
Al spent most of his life working in the family-owned business, Penn Refrigeration Service Corporation, Wilkes-Barre, retiring as its president in 2012. He was a former board member of First Eastern Bank, the YMCA, Westmoreland Club and Blue Cross of Northeastern Pennsylvania. He was also a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus.
Always interested and participating in sports, he took an active role in coaching his sons' youth basketball and Little League baseball teams. He was an avid fan of the New York Yankees and Duke basketball. Also, he was a co-owner of the Wilkes-Barre Barons Eastern League professional basketball team in the 1960s.
Like his father before him, Al was a motorcycle enthusiast and he greatly enjoyed riding with his sons and friends. He was a passionate physical fitness fanatic who never missed a day at the YMCA, working out and joking with his friends.
Al is survived by Kathleen, his loving wife of 45 years; and his three sons, Al III, Anthony and his wife, Jill, and Angelo and his wife, Karen. He was the proud grandfather of eight, Steven, Justin, Austin, Nick, Sam, Matt, Lizzy and Andrew. Al is also survived by sisters, Maureen Crackett, Phyllis Kenning and her husband, Dr. James Kenning; brother, Thomas Finarelli and his wife, Karen.
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be held in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Lake Silkworth, at the convenience of the family. The Finarelli family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday at the Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, 2011 state Route 29, Hunlock Creek, PA 18621 or to the YMCA, 40 Northampton St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701.

My name is Karel Zubris and my husband are members of the Y and over the past years have immensely enjoyed Al and his banter everyday. He always asked about our son, Jason, and got my husband motivated to exercise and have a positive outlook on life during some tough times. He was truly a warm human being and I am so lucky to have known him and his perpetual smile that lit up the room when he walked in. God Bless you all at this time.
