Albert "Pug" Yeager

Albert “Pug” Yeager, of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully at his home from colon cancer.
He was born July 22, 1923, a son of the late John and Anna Janitsky Yeager.
Drafted into the U.S. Army during his senior year at Nanticoke High School, he served with the 778 Headquarters Battalion throughout the European Theater, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe.
Upon his discharge, he resided in New York, where he worked at LaGuardia Airport. Later he moved to Philadelphia, where he was employed at various department stores in security.
Later he was employed at Emarco Elevator Co., Hazleton, as an elevator mechanic. He was employed as a mechanic with various elevator companies, until his retirement from International Union of Elevator Construction, Local 76 in 1986. After his retirement, he joined his wife operating the Noble Bar.
He served as treasurer and secretary of the American Legion Post 350, treasurer of the Nanticoke Quoit Club, founder and treasurer of the Ala Baba Club, member of the West Side Playground Association and the former Nanticoke Lions Club.
Albert was a member of St. Josephs Slovak Church.
He was the last of his immediate family, having been preceded in death by his eight siblings.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Dorothy Sersen; son, Mark and his wife, Carol; step-granddaughter, Amy Patton; son, David, all of Nanticoke; granddaughter, Marissa Gallagher Yeager, Harveys Lake; and several nieces and nephews.
A Mass with cremated remains will be held on Monday at 10 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Slovak Catholic Church, Nanticoke. Inurnment will be in the parish cemetery, Nanticoke. Arrangements are by the Stanley S. Stegura Funeral Home Inc., Nanticoke.
