Anita Capece, 82, of Mocanaqua, Conyngham Township, Pa., passed away in Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on Feb. 18, 2025, surrounded by her family.
Anita was born Oct. 23, 1942, to loving parents, Londo and Josephine Rossi. During Anita's teenage years, she worked at her family's general store, Lundy's, where the courtship with her honey, Anthony, began. Anita always made Anthony banana splits whenever he came to visit her at the store.
Anita graduated from Newport High School in 1960. After high school, she worked part time jobs while she waited for Anthony to come home from serving in the United States Army. On Oct. 20, 1962, Anita and Anthony wed, and were happily married for 63 years, living in their family home in Mocanaqua.
Anita was most proud of being a wife and mother, raising her sons, and taking care of her family. Anita loved spoiling her family with home cooked meals, taking them out for dinner, or just spending time with them. Anita taught her sons the value of family life, sacrifice and generosity. Anita's most cherished treasure was her three boys.
Anita will always be remembered for keeping her home decorated throughout the year and for hosting Christmas Eve dinners. Anita loved her QVC, and her daughters-in-law were always excited about the next gadget she would buy them. Anita and her sister, Joann, had a special bond. They would talk for countless hours on the phone every night, sharing with each other every detail of their lives. Anita adored her only grandchild, Lauren, who she was so proud to watch become a beautiful young girl.
Anita was preceded in death by the love of her life, Anthony Capece; her parents, Londo and Josephine Rossi; and by her parents-in-law, Angelo and Dolores Capece. Anita is survived by her sons: Darrin and wife, Lisa; Jason and wife, Cheryl; Jarrod and wife, Jaime; also by her granddaughter, Lauren; her sister, Joann and husband, Ronald Davis; and by her nephew, Adrian Johnson and wife, Maria.
We couldn't have asked for a better mother, sister, grandmother and friend, and will miss Anita every day. Her memory will live on in the hearts of all those who knew and loved her.
Visitation hours will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mayo Funeral Home, 77 N. Main St., Shickshinny, Pa., with a service to follow. Lunch for family and friends will be held directly after the cemetery service at Adelina's Restaurant, 166 S. Mountain Blvd, Mountain Top, Pa.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Anita's granddaughter, Lauren Capece, for her future college education. Checks can be made payable to: Lauren Capece, c/o Darrin Capece, 68 McKendree Road, Shickshinny, PA 18655.
