Beverly W. Todd, of Shavertown, Pa., formerly of Grampian and Philipsburg, Pa., died on her 90th birthday, Sunday, Jan. 12, 2025, at her home.
Beverly was born Jan. 12, 1935, at the former Philipsburg State Hospital, a daughter of the late Lorimer and Miriam (Spanogle) Wriglesworth of Grampian. Beverly, better known by her family and friends as "Bev," or "Pinky," grew up in Grampian. After attending the Grampian School, she rode the bus to Clearfield for junior high school and her first year of high school, after which she transferred to Curwensville High School, due to the jointure.
Following her graduation from Curwensville High School in 1953, Beverly moved to Philipsburg and entered the Philipsburg State Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from nursing school as a registered nurse in 1956, and accepted a position as a surgical nurse in the hospital's operating room. While working at the hospital, Beverly met and married the late Henry W. Todd, III, on Aug. 16, 1958, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Philipsburg.
Beverly remained with the hospital until her family moved to Shavertown in 1966. Beverly then took time away from nursing to raise her family. She resumed her career in the 1970s and was employed as an RN with Dallas Family Practice in Dallas, Pa., until her retirement in the 1990s.
Beverly was formerly a member of St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Philipsburg. When her family relocated to the Shavertown area, she became an active member of Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in Dallas, Pa. She was a longtime member of the church's women's club and sang in the church choir. Beverly was also actively involved in a number of community organizations, including Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), Eastern Star, the Irem Temple women's auxiliary and the New Community Singers.
Famously, Beverly was an avid Penn State football fan. One of her favorite pastimes, was attending Penn State home games, before which she and her husband tailgated with their core group of fellow fans before each game.
After 51 years of marriage, Henry preceded Beverly in death on Oct. 25, 2009. In addition to her parents and her husband, Beverly was preceded in death by her two sisters, Bonnie W. Dotts and Lucille W. Swanson; as well as her brother, Howard Wriglesworth.
Beverly is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl Todd, of Shavertown; Lyn Merchant and her husband, Abraham, of New York, N.Y.; her son, Michael Todd; and her grandson, Sebastian Todd Merchant, of New York, N.Y.; as well as other beloved, extended family members.
