HUMMELSTOWN — Brian James Volinski, 33, of Hummelstown, formerly of Swoyersville, passed away Thursday, Nov. 5, 2015, at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, after a two-year battle with a rare liver cancer and also colon cancer. He fought a brave battle and passed surrounded by his family and loving girlfriend, Kimberly Vondran. She was his amazing caregiver through all of his struggles.
Brian was born in Kingston, and resided in Swoyersville most of his life. He was the son of Walter and Diane Volinski. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, William and Ruth Phillips; and paternal grandparents, Frank Volinski and Eleanor Mahon.
Brian was a 2000 graduate of Wyoming Valley West High School and a graduate of Shippensburg University in 2004. Brian worked for several companies in the position of sales and marketing.
His favorite pastime was playing golf with his dad and friends, going to see his favorite Phillies play, and he also played in a summertime baseball league with his friends from the Harrisburg area. Brian also was a huge Dave Matthews Band fan and enjoyed attending yearly concerts with his sister, Kristen.
Surviving are his parents, Walter and Diane, Swoyersville; brothers, U.S. Navy Lt. Cmdr. Walter B. Jr., and his wife, Susanne; nieces, Madison Claire and Emerson Diane, North Potomac, Maryland; U.S. Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. William, Camp Pendleton, California; and his best and only sister, Kristen Leigh Walsh, who would have given Brian his third niece next March, and her husband, Brian Walsh, West Pittston. He is also survived by his loving girlfriend of many years, Kimberly Vondran, Hummelstown.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Mount Sinai Hospital, New York City, and at Penn State Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, for their compassionate care.
The viewing will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc., Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort. Funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday with Rev. William Lukesh, officiating. Friends may also call from 10 a.m. to service.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, or the Living Center; attention Allyson, 235 E. 95 St., Suite I J, New York, New York, 10128. Mark check donations in memory of Brian Volinski.
There will also be a memorial held 2 p.m. on Nov. 14, starting with visitation in the Church of the Redeemer, United Church of Christ, 500 W. Chocolate Ave., Hershey. Friends and family are invited to come to the vistiation, which will be followed by a celebration of Brian's life.
