Carol Smith Obituary

Carol (Baba) Smith, 82, of Plymouth, passed into eternal rest on July 2, 2025, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born Aug. 8, 1942, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late Joseph Olexy and Domicilla (Minnie) Yachymiak Olexy. Carol was a graduate of Plymouth High School and a devoted member of All Saints Parish, Plymouth. She was a member of The Friendship Club at St. Mary's Nativity Church, Plymouth.

Prior to her retirement, she was employed as an office manager for Dr. Lanning Anselmi's for many years. Prior to that, she had been employed by the Wilkes Barre General Hospital as a phlebotomist and in her early years, she had been employed by Kmart Corporation.

Carol had a deep love for gardening, with a special fondness for tending to her vegetable garden. She also enjoyed her many shopping trips and cherished her visits to the beach, where she found great joy.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Wayne A. Smith, on Dec. 23, 2018; her son, Wayne S. Smith; and sisters, Susan Kronick and Louise Davison.

Surviving are her loving children, Cheryl Krushinski and her husband, Joseph, of Brownsburg, Ind.; Jacqueline Choman and her husband, David, Raleigh, N.C.; Kimberly Smith and her wife, Sharon Nice, of West Nanticoke; and Sandra Smith, of Plymouth; daughter-in-law, Christine Smith, of Courtdale; grandchildren, Joey, Ben, Josh, Nicole, Alex, Ryan, Shawn and Wayney; and great-grandchildren, Trey, Kira, Grace, Hudson, Julian, Deuce and Ellie.

Family and friends are invited to attend Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 11 a.m. at All Saints Parish, Plymouth.

Friends may call on Saturday from 10 a.m. until Mass time in the church.

Arrangements are entrusted to S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth.

Carol's family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Lanning Anselmi for his continuous care and friendship shown to Baba over the years.

Carol Smith family, I was shocked to hear of Carol's sudden passing. I worked at K-Mart & knew Carol from there, as well as more recently in the widow's lunch group. May she rest in peace with the Lord.

I am sorry about the loss of your mom. I knew Carol from a little girl. We were Orchard St. kids l Then she got me to join the Sr. Citizens club at All Saints. I was so shocked when I saw her obituary in today's paper. I can;t stop thinking about her. You girls take care and now she is with her husband and son in God's hands. Love. Mary Ann Mrugal and Chet.
