SHAVERTOWN — Carolyn Purvin, 88, of Shavertown, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 16, 2022, peacefully at the Meadows Nursing and Rehab Center, Dallas. She was the daughter of the late Alvin and Ellen (Lines) Shaffer and was married to Donald Purvin for 67 years prior to his passing only two months earlier.
Carolyn was born in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania in 1934. She graduated from Westmoreland High School in 1952 and worked as a teacher's associate for hearing impaired students at Luzerne Intermediate unit 18. She was a devoted wife and mother.
Carolyn was an avid church-goer; you could always find her in one of the back pews at Shavertown United Methodist Church with a smile on her face. She also loved the Pennsylvania polka, coloring books and her grandchildren (and great-grandchildren).
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Cindy Adelson; her brothers, Alvin, Kenneth and Donald Shaffer, and her sister, Ann Kelley.
Surviving are her brothers, William and Richard; her daughter, Karen Arnaud and her husband Brad, of Dallas; her son-in-law Sandy Adelson and his companion Barbara, of Delaware; her seven grandchildren, Brooke, April, Chris, Kevin, Jackie, Kyle and Ellen; and seven great-grandchildren; Alyssa, Sheldon, Loretta, Grant, Chloe, Alexandra and Haley.
Funeral Services will be held privately at the convenience of family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Blue Chip Farm Animal Refugee, 974 Lockville Road, Dallas, PA 18612.
