WILKES-BARRE — Catherine M. Decker, 88, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 17, 2016, in the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
She was born in Wilkes-Barre on June 28, 1928, a daughter of the late John and Mary Pikul Mengak. Catherine was a graduate of Marymount High School, class of 1946. She was also a 1948 graduate of the Wilkes-Barre Business College.
Catherine was married to the love of her life, Dr. Raymond G. Decker, on Oct. 22, 1956. Widowed at a young age, she took great pride in the accomplishments of her children. Her greatest enjoyment in life was spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She was formerly employed by the Guild Studios for the Diocese of Scranton and she worked in the office for her late husband in Wilkes-Barre.
Catherine was a member of St. Anthony-St. George's Maronite Catholic Parish in Wilkes-Barre and she was a member of its Altar & Rosary Society.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Raymond G. Decker, in 1976, and by her daughter, Susan, in 1987. Catherine was also preceded in death by her brothers, Paul and John Mengak.
Surviving are her children, Dr. Raymond G. Decker Jr., Millstone, N.J., Dr. Catherine F. Decker, Washington D.C., Dr. Gary R. Decker, and his wife, Jenifer, Kingston, Dr. Mary Lou Decker and her husband, Dr. Brad D. Fenster, Shavertown; grandchildren, Dr. Ashley Lauren Decker- Kowal, Raymond George Decker III, Beau Alexander Decker, Gary R. Decker Jr., Matthew S. Decker, Elena Susan Fenster and Benjamin Raymond Fenster; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Nat & Gawlas Funeral Home, 89 Park Ave., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 9:30 a.m. in St. Anthony's Maronite Catholic Church, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends may call 4 to 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
