Catherine M. Emershaw, 84, of Swoyersville, passed away Saturday, April 5, 2025, at United Methodist Homes Wesley Village, Pittston.
Born June 27, 1940, in Pittston, Catherine was the daughter of the late Peter and Bertha Sakosky Petraska. Raised in Pittston, Catherine was a graduate of Pittston Area High School, Class of 1958. Prior to her retirement, Catherine was a dedicated TSS worker for the Wyoming Valley West School District for over 15 years, where she made a significant impact on the lives of countless students.
Catherine was a lifelong member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, Holy Trinity Church, Swoyersville, and a former member of its Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
She was a truly social person, always eager to connect with others and make new friends. She found joy in serving others and she dedicated countless hours to volunteering at Holy Trinity Grade School and with the Ronald McDonald House at the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center. Known for her kind heart and unwavering compassion, Catherine will also be remembered for her deep love of animals and her dedication to rescuing and adopting them throughout her life. She opened her home and heart to countless animals in need.
In addition to her parents, Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Emershaw, in 1997.
Surviving are her beloved daughter, Cheryl Fazio and her husband, Paul, Plains Township; and her extended family, including many loving cousins and relatives.
Per Catherine's wishes, a private blessing service will be held, followed by interment in Denison Cemetery, Swoyersville. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date for family and close friends.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Bednarski Funeral Home, 168 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.

I'm so sorry to hear of Catherine's passing. I used to be her hairdresser at Brooks & Co. and she was always a pleasure to talk to and get to know. She had a beautiful soul.

To my dear sweet Catherine. I´m always going to remember our late night talks they way you loved to see my daughters video. The love for tea that we shared. You filled a void when my dad past away and held me while I cried. You became more than just my patient you were my grandma. You beauty will always be remembered. Catherine I love you so so so much and will always remember our time.
