Not a day goes by that I do not think of you. On my way to visit your grave. You were an amazing person. Always knew how to make me smile. Seeing your face brightened my day, no matter how bad it was. You have seen me in some of my most embarrassing moments but never judged. I will be forever missed. I just wish I could have had one last goodbye before you left this world. I know you are up there in heaven with your brother and father. I bet that was an awesome reunion. You are forever in my heart, till the day we meet again. Fly high my love!!

I am member of Peachtree Road United Methodist church in Atlanta and we have a gold ribbon hanging outside for each of our fallen soldiers in the Iraq and Afghanistan war. We were asked to pray for one soldier's family, and I chose Dale's ribbon. Please know that I join our congregation in prayer for you all, asking for God's continued comfort. And we give humble thanks for Dale's supreme sacrifice for our freedom and great nation. Thank you and in prayer for you all.

John Boccieri
May 8, 2010
To the Family & Friends of Sgt Dale T. Lloyd:
My name is John Boccieri, I'm a Congressman in Ohio's 16th District and a pilot in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. In July 2004 I was the Co-pilot on the C-130 from the 910th Airlift Wing, Youngstown, Ohio that flew Sgt Lloyd out of Iraq on his final flight home as an honored and fallen hero for our Country. I've been meaning to write this post for some time, but finally found the strength to put words to computer. I've remembered Sgt Lloyd ever since that day and memorialized him in many speeches I've made as a State Representative, State Senator, and now a Congressman on Memorial Day and Veterans Day.
Our unit, the 773rd Airlift Squadron, was mobilized from 2003 thru 2005 in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom & Enduring Freedom. I deployed on 5 rotations, with 4 to the Middle East over that two year period. As a reservist, I flew thousands of soldiers in and out of Iraq and Afghanistan, and had the honor of flying some of our wounded and fallen heroes out of country.
The day my aircrew flew Sgt Dale T. Lloyd we had finished our pre-planned mission and had just taken off out of Mosul flying back to Al Salem, AB in Kuwait. We received a radio call to land at the Baghdad International Airport without a mission description. The mood was light on our plane since we were rotating back home in a few days and anxious to see our families. We completed our tactical approach into the airfield unabated and parked the airplane as we've always done in front of the tower. An Air Force Colonel came up the ladder and I met him as the Aircraft Commander finished signing the aircraft documents. We still didn't know why we returned to Baghdad. The Colonel handed me a paper and said Major, you have the honor of flying HR (human remains) - a fallen US Soldier on his final flight out of Iraq - prepare the plane and the crew. The light mood turned somber as we began to sweep the mud from the boots of the soldiers we delivered to Iraq off the back of the plane and make room for our special cargo. About 100 soldiers poured out of the tower and base HQ as they probably had done thousands of times to pay their respects to this fallen brother. They stood at attention along with our crew on the ramp of the airplane as a truck drove up. As the hatch dropped there was Old Glory as I'd rarely seen her before. Old Glory that day wasn't being carried by some Veteran during a parade or fellow citizens pledging allegiance to it at the statehouse. That day Old Glory was draped over a coffin. I remember as the honor guard brought the soldier onto our airplane, and the chaplain began to say, here lies the remains of Sgt Dale T. Lloyd 22 years old from Pennsylvania, a hero who lost his life a day ago outside the gates of this airport, he leaves behind a grieving family and we must remember his sacrifice.
I was especially moved because I had left at home a wife with 2 baby girls and I thought that it could just as easily been me who was flying home that way. As we flew out of Baghdad that day, I pledged to myself that I would never forget this soldier and every chance I’ve had since then to speak about our troops I tell this story so that we can remember his sacrifice. As an elected official, I’ve encountered people who believe the Iraq invasion was a mistake. I say to them that whether they agree with the war or not, we must salute and honor the soldiers who deploy to far-off lands only because our country asks them to. I write this to you today to let you know that Sgt Dale T. Lloyd is not forgotten – and the pilot who flew him out of Baghdad on his final flight will always speak proudly of his service. On behalf of a grateful nation, we thank all of you for sharing Sgt Lloyd with the America.

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Dale, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !
Ohhhhhhhh to a family who has lost so many too soon, may these words bring some comfort.

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dale went to hs at Warrior Run with my 3 kids. He and my youngest son were best buddies. I loved Dales' smile and he was so smart and wise beyond his years. Its been almost 4 years since his tragic loss and this past week his twin brother was killed in NM and his father died as a result of cancer. The double funeral will be Monday Jun 2,08 and both will be buried by Dale.
The mother is a grand lady who has has much respect from all who know her and knew her boys. I think of Dale often and the "crowd of friends" who were at my home a lot. He is missed more than we all can say. We love you Dale, you now have your brother and father with you to share old times with and enjoy laughter again.
Missed greatly by Linda and all the Warrior RUn gang "Robyn, Scott, Joel, Dustin, Justin, Bobby, Mike, Heather, Anthony and the rest".

I didn't know this man.
But as an AF veteran I can indentify with the loss to
his family and freinds.
I pass the road that bears his name
on my way through Thornhurst
every day.
His name on the sign always catches
my eye and I reflect on the
sacrifice our men & women
have made to keep us free.
Freedom never was, is still not, nor ever shall be free.
It has always come with a price.
I'd just like to say thanks to
Dale, and all our soldiers,
who have paid that price for us.
They are NOT forgotten!
July 29, 2007
If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

3 years? How can 3 years have gone by yet it seems like eternity since we all last saw you? I know I am late in leaving this, I so badly wanted you to know that we were thinking of you that day, but you were watching, you knew. Dave called me from JRTC that day and we talked about you and how much you are missed, you wouldn't believe the impact you've had on the world.
We got to see your dad a few weeks ago and we loved every minute. He is a wonderful man and he loves you more then I could ever put into words. Dave and I can't wait till we get to visit again.

My husband was on FOB Chosin serving beside Dale and C.C that day almost 3 years ago. He knew Dale well and love hanging out and playing football and wrestling around like so many of them do! "GOOD GAME" is used often in our house. Each time in loving memory and respect for an amazing soldier and friend.
I had the privilege of coming down to PA along with several other woman from 1/32. I remember the time I spent there with your family like it was yesterday! Your father sat with us at the hotel the morning that you were buried sharing pictures and memories with us. Even though I didn't personally know you well, you and your family have had a huge impact on my life. Jan.2007 Hi Dale, Uncle Bib and I think of you all the time. We hope and pray that the people in Iraq will be free and the killing will stop. Most Americans support our troops and hope they can come home soon. We've lost over 3000 men and women already. They were all very courageous and understood their mission just as you did. You must have quite a few brave young soldiers up there in heaven with you now. God Bless you all.

A new year has started. The war continues. There is a huge negative feeling about our troops in Iraq. Two weeks before you got hit you said we must stay and educate the kids to make Iraq a good country and it will take at least 20 years to accomplish that. You and many others gave all you had in that belief. I carry that belief in my heart for you son. I am so proud of you and your fellow infantry men that gave Iraq a chance. Like you said most of them are good people and deserve freedom. I know God is very proud to have you on his team now.

Hi Dale; we think of you all the time but especially at Christmas. We just saw your father here on L.I. He and your Uncle Bob flew out to Seattle for your Aunt Lucille's funeral on 12/17.She passed away on 12/10 this year..very suddenly. You will be seeing her up in heaven if you haven't already. She was very proud of you as we all are and always will be.

I am grieving for someone I have never met. Dale T. Lloyd, I didn't know personally but what I find familiar to me is his dedication, loyalty and love for his country. My high school friend, Hazel Pepe, from Wyoming sent me his picture of himself in Iraq in June. She was so proud of her cousin Dick's son, Dale in Fallujah doing his part for the war. She told me his Battalion was moving out of that city to another area but first he was coming home for a visit. How nice I thought and he will come home for good in Sept. I was shcked to hear of his passing.Thank God the family and friends have that time in June and July to have forever in their memory of his visits.Thank you Dale ...for being the kind of man you were.We must all remember to thank any veterans of foreigh wars when we meet them to give our graditude to them for serving in the Unted States Armed Forces. To Dale's parents, siter and twin brothers, I am sorry for your loss. But know that there are a great many people, not just family who are mourning Dale.

Dale was a compassionate, selfless young man who sincerely wanted everyone in the world to benefit from the democratic freedom and privileges that we enjoy, and often take for granted, here in the United States.
Not only was Dale a courageous leader who, out of loyalty and deep concern for the lives of his fellow soldiers, lost his own life, he was also a compassionate, strong, spiritually grounded, honest and genuinely loving human being.
My heart goes out to all who loved Dale, especially to my Uncle Dick, my cousin, Dale’s twin brother, Scott and Dale's mother, Amy. Although words of hope, love and support will not take away your pain, and although you will always miss Dale terribly so, may you find some comfort and peace in the knowledge that so many of us are thinking about you and care. And most importantly, that Dale knew, and still knows, how much you love him, and how proud and appreciative you, and all of us are of his sacrifice. And always remember that, without a shadow of a doubt, he loves you very deeply, and will always be there.
