COURTDALE — David J. Holly Sr., 83, of Hoyt Street, Courtdale, died on July 20, 2016, at River Run Nursing Home, Kingston.
He was born in Pittston on Oct. 19, 1932, the son of the late William and Margaret (Heeps) Holly. He is a graduate of Luzerne High School, class of 1952. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict.
David had resided in Courtdale since 1959. Prior to his retirement in 1995, he worked as a swing operator at Berkley Publishing.
He was a member of Courtdale United Methodist Church and served on the Official Board of Trustees. He was also a former member of Courtdale Volunteer Hose Company.
He loved sports, including football, tennis and bowling. He was an avid fan of Penn State football and whoever won the Super Bowl in the previous year.
David had a large model train display. He loved to travel and had a deep love for his family.
Preceding David in death are his brother, William Holly Jr., and Marian Evans.
Surviving are his loving wife, Marlene (Kostenbauder) Holly, of 59 years as of Aug. 3; sons, David and his wife, Donna, of Duryea, and Howard and fiancee, Sharon, of Courtdale; grandchildren, Brandon, Matthew and Tara and her husband, Nick; sister, Doris Hawk, of Michigan; as well as several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 2:30 p.m. Saturday from the Hugh B. Hughes & Son Inc. Funeral Home, 1044 Wyoming Ave., Forty Fort, with his pastor, the Rev. Roxy J. Moses, officiating. Friends may call 1 p.m. to service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Courtdale United Methodist Church, 225 Courtdale Ave., Courtdale, PA 18704; or Courtdale Volunteer Hose Company, 33 Blackman St., Courtdale, PA 18704.
