David Wayda Obituary

WILKES-BARRE — David Mark Wayda, 57, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 18, 2017, at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.

He was born July 14, 1959, to the late Leonard and Mildred Wayda, of Shickshinny. He attended Lake-Lehman High School, and then went on to serve for four years in the U.S. Navy. He was an avid outdoorsman, a talented bow hunter and fisherman, and he shared this love with friends and family members. He was a member of St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, of Wilkes-Barre, and was very proud of his Slovak heritage.

Dave is survived by his four children, of whom he was immensely proud, Elijah, of Philadelphia, Danielle, of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Christian and Anya, of Moscow. He is also survived by his siblings, Richard, of Mountain Top, Debra Fagan and Robert, of Shickshinny, as well as nieces, nephews and close cousins.

No funeral services will be held, as his children have chosen to donate his body, through the Humanity Gift Registry of Pennsylvania, to medical research and education. A private memorial service will be held for family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Dave's name to the food pantry at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church of Wilkes-Barre, Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, or Catholic Social Services of the Diocese of Scranton.

Memories and Condolences

Not sure what to say?

February 5, 2017

Sending continued condolences, love and prayers to all in our extended family. Yesterday was a day I will never forget. There was a lot of love, fellowship, and renewing of relationships that would have made Dave (and his parents) happy and proud. Words don't do service to describe the love we have for Dave's children and their mothers, and his siblings and their families.

Dave touched a lot of people. My brother's friends and my friends (originally from the King of Prussia area....now scattered near and far) all have met Dave, and kind words and condolences came pouring in to all of us from all over the country and including our family in Slovakia.

Godspeed cousin. Whenever I see your beautiful kids, or watch PSU or the Little League World Series, I will be reminded of you. My 2nd big brother.
