DALLAS — Donna LaBruyere Vrhel, 77, of Dallas, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 18, 2023, in Kingston Rehabilitation, Kingston.
Born in Pearl River, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Lewis and Ruth LaBruyere, and was employed by Luzerne County Children and Youth, a job she truly loved and was passionate about. She was known by her colleagues as being a wealth of knowledge, and an amazing mentor, with a memory like no other. She was also known for her staple "the PURPLE pen" as well as her first of May phone calls. Donna was also known for being a diehard Notre Dame fan.
After retiring from Children and Youth, she was sworn into C.A.S.A as a court appointed special advocate in 2013. She selflessly continued to dedicate her time to advocating and being a voice for children and families throughout Luzerne County.
For those that knew Donna, they knew that her true passion in life was her family, especially her seven grandchildren, who she absolutely cherished and referred to as her "grand-peeps." She also enjoyed going out to eat with her friends and co-workers, especially during "Bacon Week." She will always be remembered for being a strong, loving and compassionate person, and also for her ability to "tell it like it is." If you knew her, you knew.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Eric Vrhel Sr.; and brother, John (Jack) LaBruyere.
She is survived by her son, Roger Vrhel; son, Andrew Vrhel and daughter-in-law, Marisa Vrhel; daughter, Renee Vrhel and fiancé, Ryan Wojtowicz; seven "grand-peeps": Alexandra, Jocelyn, Juliana, Lila, Carson, Addalynn and Logan.
Donna's wishes were to have no public services. Arrangements under the direction of the Andrew Strish Funeral Home, Larksville.

Donna was more than a "boss" in my life-she "looked" after all of us that had the privilege to work with her. Donna always "gave it to me straight" and did it with kindness and support. She will always be a part of who I am and all the lives of those she knew.
