Elaine May Gregorowicz, 68, of Meadowcrest Drive in the Hanover Section of Nanticoke, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 4, 2010, in the Hospice Community Care Inpatient Unit of Geisinger South in Wilkes-Barre. Elaine was a loving, caring wife and mother and would have celebrated her 45th wedding anniversary on June 26, 2010, with her high school sweetheart, John. She was born in Nanticoke, on May 1, 1942, a devoted daughter of the late Joseph Noveral and Eleanor Perry Noveral. Elaine was a graduate of Nanticoke High School, Class of 1960, and Wilkes-Barre General Hospital School of Nursing, Class of 1963. She obtained her Registered Nursing degree that same year. She completed numerous in-service programs in the fields of nursing and behavioral health. Elaine worked as an RN at Retreat State Hospital in Hunlock Creek, Saint Peter's General Hospital in New Brunswick, N.J., Hampton House Nursing Care Facility in Hanover Township, and at Northeast Counseling/Nanticoke Mental Health. She held membership in the Nanticoke Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Wilkes-Barre General Hospital Alumni Association and the Greater Nanticoke Historical Society. Elaine possessed remarkable musical talent as an accomplished pianist and frequently volunteered her time and talents to provide musical entertainment at numerous local personal care and nursing facilities. She had a rare individual sense of humor and her creative ideas positively impacted the lives of many. Elaine was an avid collector of teddy bears and historical memorabilia and her hobbies included interior decorating and creative floral design. Her lifelong love of animals, especially cats, was evident with the animals she cared for personally and through her ongoing commitment to the Humane Society and the SPCA of Luzerne County. She was preceded in death by her father, Joseph Noveral, 1969; mother, Eleanor Perry Noveral, 2008; stepfather, French L. Jones, 1995; brother, David Noveral, 1968; and daughter, Ann Gregorowicz, 1968. Surviving are her husband, John A. Gregorowicz; daughter, Paula Gregorowicz and partner, Kim Daly, Telford, Pa. Elaine is also survived by her brother-in-law, Gerald Gregorowicz, and wife, Melanie, Mountain Top; sisters-in-law, Janet Higdon and husband, Paul, Nanticoke, and Diane Casey and husband, Donald, Nanticoke. She is also survived by an aunt, Rita Noveral, of Nanticoke; as well as nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Nebo Baptist Church, 75 Prospect St., Nanticoke, with Pastor Timothy G. Hall officiating. Friends may call from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Entombment will follow in Oak Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum, 1250 S. Main St., Hanover Township.
