Eugene Roth Obituary

Eugene Roth, Esq. 85, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away on Wednesday, June 9, 2021, at home.

Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Max and Rae Klein Roth. He was a 1953 graduate of GAR High School, a 1957 graduate of Wilkes University and a 1960 graduate with honors from the Dickinson School of Law in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. He was a Partner in the law firm of Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald, LLP for more than 60 years and maintained a longstanding and successful practice in the firm's business and finance department to public and private companies.

He was a 61-year member of the Luzerne County, Pennsylvania and American Bar Associations.

Eugene was a member of the Ohav Zedek Synagogue and board member, past president or chairman of numerous Jewish and community civic organizations in northeastern Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Board of Directors of several public companies, including, Jewelcor Incorporated, Wyoming National Bank and its successor Merchants Bank, and Commonwealth Telephone Company. He was honored by Who's Who in Finance & Industry, Who's Who in American Law. Who's Who in the World, United Hebrew Institute Shofar Award in 2000, National Society of Fundraising Executives Outstanding Volunteer Fund Raiser in 1993, B'nai B'rith Community Service Award in 1994, Northeast Pennsylvania Council of the Boy Scouts of America Distinguished Citizen Award in 1998, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce Distinguished Pennsylvanian Award, Wilkes University Ancestral Colonels Lifetime Achievement Award in 2009, Wilkes University John Wilkes Society's Eugene S. Farley Memorial Achievement Award in 2009 and the Wilkes University President's Medal in 2019.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Lawrence; granddaughter, Emma Roth; brother, Phillip Roth who died while serving his country in World War II; brother, Marvin Roth and sister, Sandra Warshal.

Eugene is survived by his loving wife, Constance Debra Smulyan Roth; daughter, Joan Roth Kleinman and her husband, Keith of Dallas; son, Steven Roth and his wife, Susan of Shavertown; son, Jeffery Roth and his wife, Kathy of Kingston. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be conducted on Thursday, June 10, 2021, at 2:30 pm from Congregation Ohav Zedek, 242 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre, with Rabbi Dovid Kaplan officiating. Interment will follow in Ohav Zedek Cemetery, Hanover Township.

Shiva will be observed at the Woodlands Inn and Resort, 1073 Highway 315, Wilkes-Barre from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday; 2 to 4 p.m. on Friday; 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday; and 6 to 9 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday.
