THORNHURST TWP. — George Evan "Evie" Chase of Thornhurst Township, passed away on Feb. 21, 2023, at the home that he loved at the age of 79.
Born on Nov. 12, 1943, Evie was the fourth eldest of 10 children to the late Albert L. Chase and Jennie Clemow Chase of the Parsons section of Wilkes-Barre. Evie graduated from Coughlin High School, the class of 1961. Evie was employed for most of his working life at AT&T, and later Lucent Technologies, after the break-up of AT&T. Evie started his career at AT&T climbing telephone poles, and retired at the age of 50 as a senior manager with Lucent. Evie raised three children: Tom, Todd and Terry, in Chester County, Pennsylvania, and later a number of years in Maryland, helping put Todd and Terry through college at the University of Maryland.
Throughout his life, Evie loved making home improvements and never had a need to hire a handyman. Prior to his retirement, Evie almost single-handedly restored the family farm house in Chester County, and for the final 28 years of his life, Evie kept his home on the mountain in pristine condition and was rightfully proud of his work.
Over the years, Evie participated in legendary camping adventures, hunting and canoe trips, family reunions, paintball wars, video games and card games. He was a lifelong member of the Parsons Baptist Church and was a staunch supporter and contributor to The Wounded Warrior Project. Evie was also an active member on the association board for his community.
Evie was proud of all of his children and grandchildren, and cherished his time with them. He was loved by his family, friends and community and will be remembered forever as a man with no enemies. Everyone that knew Evie has a personal story that would bring tears of laughter to your eyes.
In addition to his parents, Evie was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Evan Chase; daughter, Sandra Chase; sisters: Beverly Pettigrew, Gail Popple, and Alberta Fox.
Evie is survived by his children: son, Todd Chase and wife Bernadette of Stevensville, Maryland; daughter, Terry Chase of Bryan, Texas; and grandchildren: Marney Hazell, Jayce Hazell, Katherine Chase, Angela Chase and Thomas Chase. In addition, Evie is survived by brothers: Carl Chase, Albert Chase, and William Chase; and sisters: Jennie Williams, Donna Nilon, and Gloria Richwalder.
