Glen Eckhart Obituary

Glen E. Eckhart, 55, passed away on April 9, 2021, surrounded by loved ones after a courageous battle with cancer.

Born in in Wilkes-Barre on Dec. 24, 1965, he was the son of Marilyn and Arthur Eckhart.

He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Eckhart, his grandfather, Clarence B. Eckhart, and his grandmother, Helen Eckhart.

Surviving are his wife, Tina Eckhart (Little), of Nanticoke, his son, Adam Eckhart, of Nanticoke, his daughter, Emily Eckhart, of Wyoming, his mother, Marilyn Eckhart, of Nanticoke, and his brother, Jeffery Eckhart, of Jessup. In addition, are his stepchildren, Christina Dewald, husband Brian Dewald, his step-granddaughter, Brianah, of South Williamsport, and Kimberly Persun, husband Brandon Persun, of Unityville, along with numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

Glen was a graduate of Wyoming Valley West, Class of 1983. After graduating high school, Glen went on to graduate from Johnson Technical College, where he studied auto mechanics. He worked for Ford dealerships for over 20 years, and in 2019 he began working for Quality Collision in Kingston. Most recently, he received his license to become an auto insurance estimator, which he studied adamantly for while receiving chemotherapy. Glen was extremely proud to work in the car industry and had a passion for classic cars.

Glen was an avid lover of nature, and he enjoyed going to every hiking spot with his wife, Tina, most often at Ricketts Glen, where he proposed to her in April, 2017. Married in 2018, Tina was the light of Glen's life and stood by him through everything. He loved fishing, and fly fishing, with his son, Adam, and even tied all of his own lures. Glen had a passion for music, playing the guitar and piano, which he shared with his daughter Emily. He taught Emily everything he could about music. Glen was able to play any kind of music and was often found jamming out on one of his many guitars to Stevie Ray Vaughn songs.

Glen had a passion for sports and wrestled and swam throughout his high school and college years. In his adult years, he loved riding his bicycle anywhere he could, and cross-country skiing in the mountains of Pennsylvania. When his son was old enough to play sports, he attended every occasion with pride. He loved his animals, and always had a soft spot for rescuing any animal he could. He loved a good fine wine or brandy, which he carefully paired with one of his favorite cigars.

Glen's warm and calm spirit was a comfort to all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He never seemed to worry about the small stuff, and just loved living life. Glen was a fighter, battling numerous medical diagnoses, and fought pancreatic cancer for nearly two years. He will always be remembered for his fearless outlook on life.

Dad, we were not ready to let you go, either. But we know you are at peace, and you will always be our guardian angel.

A memorial service will be held at Hugh B. Hughes funeral home, from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, April 16, with a private service for family being held at 7 p.m. with Rocky Bonomo of Sweet Valley Church of Christ officiating.
