PITTSTON — Gloria E. Anzalone, 89, of Pittston, passed away Saturday, Aug. 27, 2016, in Wesley Village, Pittston, four days after her husband, Joseph C. Anzalone, passed away. They were married for 69 years.
On June 14, 1947, she and her husband had the distinction of being the first honeymoon couple to fly out of the newly built Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Airport.
Born in Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Salvatore C. and Josephine (O'Boyle) Andaloro.
She was a graduate of Pittston High School. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda Anzalone; sisters, Josephine Adonizio and Marilyn Penyak; brothers, Cataldo and Samuel Andaloro.
Surviving are her son, Vincent Anzalone, of Harveys Lake; daughters, Joyce Anzalone, of Hanover Township, and Gloria Anzalone, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Daphne Pugh and her husband, Jarod, Christopher Shaffer, and Emily Norris and her husband, Michael; great-grandchildren, Chase, Chloe, Claire and Cole Pugh, Brooke and Kaitlyn Norris; numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank, again, the staff at Wesley Village for their compassionate and loving care over the years.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 30, in St. Joseph Marello Parish, 237 William St., Pittston. Those attending are asked to go directly to the church. There will be no calling hours. Interment will be at the convenience of the family in St. Rocco's Cemetery, Pittston Township. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Peter J. Adonizio Funeral Home, 251 William St., Pittston.

We were so sorry to hear of Aunt Gloria's death. Her Irish nephews have fond memories of the great dinners she made for them. They declared her the "best cook in America."
