Helene (Lenar) Sirak, 97, of Hanover Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family, on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2025, at Allied Meade Street Hospice, Wilkes-Barre.
Born Aug. 11, 1928, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late John Lenar and Helen Mikula Lenar. Helene was raised from the age of 3 at St. Stanislaus Orphanage. Helene attended Newport High School and was a member of Ss. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, Plymouth.
Prior to her retirement, she was employed by R&K Dress, Cornet Dress and Empire Dress as a seamstress for many years. She was a member of the ILGWU.
Known lovingly as "Granny," Helene cherished time spent with her family. She especially looked forward to the holidays, where her love for sewing, baking and creating special moments truly shined. One of her greatest joys was baking her famous zucchini bread, which she delighted in sharing with family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Michael Sirak; son, Michael B. Sirak; brothers, Edward Lenar, John Lenar, Peter Lenar and Walter Lenar; and sisters, Bertha Piatek and Stella Skwruit.
Surviving are her loving daughters, Helene Skopek-Krygier, of Wilkes Barre, and Michaelene (Mickie) Ostrum, and her husband, John, of Wilkes Barre; grandchildren, John Ostrum, Michael Ostrum (Cheyenne), Ali Schappert (Jude), Michael T. Sirak (Alaina) and Josh Sirak; great grandchildren, Ayla Schappert, Jude Schappert and Jovi Schappert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday from S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, 530 W. Main St., Plymouth, followed by Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. in S.S. Peter & Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church. Interment will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Twp.
Family and friends are invited to call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. Thursday at S.J. Grontkowski Funeral Home, Plymouth. Parastas Service will be held at 5:45 p.m. Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, contributions, if desired, may be made to S.S. Peter and Paul U.C. Church, P.O. Box 60, Plymouth PA 18651.
