Howard A. West of Playa Del Rey, California, formerly of Wilkes-Barre, passed away July 17, 2025, at Cedars Sinia Hospital with his sisters by his side. Born Sept. 13, 1954, Howard was the son of the late Howard E. and Joan Price West. He was a graduate of the first class of Bishop Hoban High School, Class of 1972. After graduating high school, he moved to California to begin his career in the airlines. He worked for TWA for 11 years and retired as an Inflight Supervisor from United Airlines after 33 years of service.
Howard enjoyed exploring new places and his travels took him to six of the seven continents. Even though Howard was a world traveler, he always returned to the Wyoming Valley where he was active in his family's lives. When he was in California he enjoyed volunteering and giving back to his community, including the LA marathon.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his infant sister, Deborah Ann West. Surviving him are his sisters, Donna Lee (Edward) Campbell of Wilkes-Barre; Sally (John) Stravinski of Mountain Top, Joan Paulson of Dallas; brothers, James (Anne) Louisiana and Robert (Annie) Mountain Top. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family who loved him dearly.
A private service will be held in accordance with Howard's wishes.

Started working at TWA with Howard in 1973. So sad to hear of his passing. Friends through the years (52 years). He moved on to United Airlines, I stayed at TWA then American Airlines when they took over TWA. Enjoyed occasional get together over those years.

We will sure miss, Howard! What a spirit who loved life. I remember him well as an inflight supervisor at United Airlines, he supported me in spite of my endless rants. I enjoyed his company post-retirement in Palm Springs, where we wined and dined endlessly with fellow friends. He was always so kind and thoughtful and made everyone feel welcomed in his life. He left too soon but made an impression that will last forever. Fly free now, Howie! Keith Coleman and Chris Boada.

Howard was truly an amazing person and a top-notch supervisor at United. He was respected by everyone on the Inflight team. What stood out most was his genuine kindness, which really made a difference to so many flight attendants. He'll definitely be missed greatly and remembered fondly by all of us.
