WILKES-BARRE — Mrs. Irene R. Dwojewski, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Saturday, Nov. 29, 2014, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center, Plains Township.
Born Oct. 2, 1916, in Wilkes-Barre, she was a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary Wisnewski Olszewski.
Irene attended Wilkes-Barre city schools and was employed in the area shoe industry for many years, most notably, by Melody Shoes, Wilkes-Barre. She was a member of Our Lady of Hope Parish and a former member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers.
Irene was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt. She enjoyed cooking and taking care of her family.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Joseph, on June 6, 2006; and was the last living member from her family of three brothers and five sisters. Her brothers were Benjamin, Joseph and Theodore Olszewski; and sisters, Valeria, Pauline, Josephine, Stella and Sophie.
Surviving are her sons, Joseph and his wife, Arlene, Shavertown, and Robert of Ashley, and his friend, Susan Davis of Wilkes-Barre; daughter, Barbara Wilson, Hanover Township and her companion, Charlie Perrella, Moosic; grandchildren, Joleen Hettler, Joseph Dwojewski, Robert, Michal Anne, Sara and Matthew Dwojewski, Kristina Wilson-Malia and Ronald Wilson; 12 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 9 a.m. Tuesday from the Jendrzejewski Funeral Home, 21 N. Meade St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Our Lady of Hope Parish, Park Avenue, Wilkes-Barre. The Rev. John S. Terry, pastor, will be celebrant. Interment will be in St. Mary's Maternity Cemetery, West Wyoming. Family and friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Some of my earliest memories contain visions of Aunt Irene and Uncle Joe. I remember her voice. I remember her warmth. Rest in peace, Aunt Irene.
