John William Balliet, 78, of Nuangola, passed away on Sept. 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Born on Nov. 15, 1946, in Nuangola, John remained a proud lifelong resident of the community he loved.
A United States Marine, John served his country honorably during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he worked for many years as a mechanic at Dana Perfume.
John was a man who found joy in nature — whether he was hunting, fishing or simply enjoying the peace of the outdoors. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Sharon Balliet, and his beloved daughters: Renae Utz (Christopher), Nicole Fijalkovic (Craig), Michele Balliet (Steven Williams), Danielle Weaver (Michael). John was a proud grandfather to Casey, Andrew, Sophia, Remy and Sadie.
He is also survived by his brothers, Edwin Balliet (Gloria) and William Balliet (Jane), along with many cherished nieces and nephews.
A viewing will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 5, at McCune Funeral Home, where family and friends are invited to pay their respects and honor John's life.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 6, at Stairville Cemetery.
Donations may be made in John's memory to the National MS Society or the Veterans Administration.
John will be remembered for his strength, quiet wisdom and enduring love for his family.

"A Vietnam Veteran has passed away today." John, you have secured your final beachhead. You are now relieved from your post. A job well done fellow Vietnam Veteran. We all are grateful for your stepping up to the plate when your country needed you the most. America thanks you for your service to our country in the defense of freedom. The final volley has sounded and taps is about to begin, ending a successful career as a nation´s defender. Farewell fellow veteran.
