Sandra Szabo Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cantelmi Funeral Home - Fountain Hill on Feb. 25, 2026.
Sandra J. Szabo, 85, of Fountain Hill, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2026, She was the devoted wife of the late Eugene Szabo for 61 years, who passed away on October 7, 2021.

Born and raised in Pen Argyl, she was the daughter of the late Elwood and Olive (Strouse) Lohman. Sandy was a proud graduate of Bangor High School and the Haff Hospital School of Practical Nursing. Throughout her life, she was known for her strong work ethic, warm personality, and deep devotion to those she loved.

For 30 years, Sandy was the owner and manager of the former Unique Floral Creations in Fountain Hill, where she poured her creativity and heart into every arrangement and built lasting friendships within the community. She later worked as a receptionist at St. Luke's Hospital at the patient information desk, where her welcoming smile and kind presence brought comfort to countless patients and families.

Sandy found joy in life's simple pleasures. She loved cooking and baking for her family, tending to her garden, and creating a warm and inviting home. She also enjoyed tanning and spending time in the sunshine whenever she could. A faithful member of St. Ursula Catholic Church, she was active in the church's Women's Guild, as well as a member of the Fountain Hill Borough Council and the Fountain Hill Legion, always giving her time and energy to her community.

Most of all, she treasured her family. The many years spent vacationing in Wildwood Crest became some of her most cherished memories. Her grandsons were truly the apple of her eye, and nothing brought her greater happiness than watching them grow. She was also blessed with great-grandchildren, Leo and Elena, who brought her even more joy in recent years.

Sandra will be lovingly remembered by her daughters, Lori Karaska (Carl) of Nuangola and Denise Verrastro of Fountain Hill; her cherished grandchildren, Rob Rodgers (Krystle), Hunter Verrastro, and Reed Karaska; her great-grandchildren, Leo and Elena; her brother, Larry Lohman of Sun City West, AZ; her sisters-in-law, Judy Klucsarits (Rich) of Bethlehem and Frances J. Szabo of Bethlehem; and her cousin, Kathy of Mount Bethel and 4 nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her sister-in-law, Marie, her cousin, Bob and brother-in-law Paul.

The family would also like to thank everyone who graciously made sure Sandy got to all her appointments these past months.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 AM on Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. Ursula Catholic Church, 1300 Broadway, Fountain Hill, followed by interment at Holy Saviour Cemetery, Bethlehem. Calling hours will be held on Sunday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Cantelmi Funeral Home, 1311 Broadway, Fountain Hill, and again on Monday morning in church from 10:00 AM until the time of the Mass.
