FACTORYVILLE — John Gurdak, 67, of Factoryville, passed away Friday, Sept. 27, 2024, at home. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Evelyn (Aguipo) Gurdak.
Born Aug. 21, 1957, in Luzerne, he is the son of the late John and Lottie (Zipko) Gurdak. A proud graduate of Tunkhannock High School in 1975, John went on to serve in the United States Army from 1975 to 1978. Following his active duty, he continued his commitment to service by joining the Army Reserves, where he remained until 1980. From 1983 until his retirement in 2013, John worked as a Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer, where his dedication and skill contributed to national security.
He found joy and relaxation in hunting and fishing, often sharing these experiences with family and friends. Additionally, he developed a passion for gardening.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by son, John Gurdak and wife, Melissa; daughter, Katrina Gurdak and wife, Noelle Oh; sisters: Dolores Koepke and husband, Bill; Sandy Gurdak; and Ann Heiser; grandson, Hayden Gurdak; niece, Heidi Koepke; grandnephew, Jayden Ramos.
Family and friends are invited to attend John's Mass of Christian Burial, followed by military honors, which will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church, 99 E. Tioga St., Tunkhannock, to be celebrated by the Rev. Dennis Bajkowski. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Sheldon-Kukuchka Funeral Home, 73 W. Tioga St. Tunkhannock.
