John C. Stachokus, 50, of Plains Township, passed away Sunday morning, Oct. 5, 2025, from complications of obstructive sleep apnea.
Born Jan. 17, 1975, in Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of Loretta M. (Yastremski) Stachokus and the late John J. Stachokus.
John was a graduate of James M. Coughlin High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1993, and Luzerne County Community College.
He was employed as a corrections officer for Luzerne County, and he worked for Pittston City Department of Public Works.
John was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys, Penn State and the Philadelphia Phillies. He enjoyed watching his favorite team while kicking back enjoying a cold one, cooking on the grill, spending time with his friends. John had a free spirit and lived his life to the fullest while leaving an infectious mark on anyone's heart he touched. Fly high, "The Great One."
He was preceded in death by his father, John J. Stachokus, on April 1, 1987; paternal grandparents, John and Josephine Stachokus; and maternal grandmother, Josephine Yastremski.
Surviving are his mother, Loretta Stachokus, Plains Township; brother, Jason Stachokus and his wife, Kimberly, Plains Township; son, Devon Steininger, Hanover Twp.; nieces, Kayla and Kelsie Stachokus; and nephew, Jason Stachokus.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Township, with the Rev. John C. Lambert, pastor, officiating. A livestream of the Funeral Mass will be on the parish Facebook page. Those attending the Funeral Mass should go directly to the church Tuesday morning. Interment will be held at the convenience of the family. Family and friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Corcoran Funeral Home Inc., 20 S. Main St., Plains Township.
Memorial donations may be made to SPCA of Luzerne County, 524 E. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, Pa. 18702.
