Joseph Switzer Obituary

Joseph Patrick Switzer, 60, passed away Monday, March 24, 2025, in Harding, Exeter Township, Pa. He was born May 11, 1964, in Wilkes-Barre.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Amy Lloyd Switzer; son, Connor Switzer and his fiancée, Valerie Malinoski; brother, Robert Switzer and wife, Jacqueline; nieces: Samantha Lloyd Parker, Kelsey Lloyd Johnston and Makenzie Switzer; nephews: Michael Lloyd and Jakob Switzer; brothers-in-law: Thomas C. Lloyd and wife, Susan: and Steven Lloyd; and uncle, Joseph Conniff.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glenn R. Switzer and Mary Ann Conniff Switzer.

Joe lived a life marked by dedication to family, career and personal passions. A graduate of Wyoming Area High School, Class of 1982, Joe pursued further education at Johnson Technical Institute, earning an Associate of Science degree in biomedical technology in 1992. He built a distinguished career as an electronics technician specializing in radar systems for the Air Force at Tobyhanna Army Depot. With 24 years of service, he was recognized for his expertise and commitment, receiving both the Department of the Army Civilian Award and the Dedication of Civilian Service from the Air Force. He retired in May 2024 from Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Joe was a devoted member of the Corpus Cristi Parish, West Pittston, and actively participated in several organizations. He was a past master of Valley Lodge No. 499; he was also a Shriner, and member of the Scottish Right.

Beyond his professional and community involvement, Joe had a deep love for the outdoors. His hobbies included hunting, golfing, making maple syrup, gardening and cultivating food plots to advance ecosystem health for all wildlife. In pursuing his hobbies, his son Connor was always with him to help repair, design or improve the plan. A passionate Philadelphia Eagles football fan, he cherished witnessing his team win two Super Bowls — a dream come true. Also a Notre Dame fan, he spent countless hours tailgating and watching the Irish play.

Joe will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father and cherished friend. His generous heart and unwavering kindness left an indelible mark on those who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who mourn his passing. The family would like to thank the office of Medical Oncology Associates and Dr. Bruce Saidman for their unwavering support over the past two years; along with other medical staff that treated him throughout his illness. The staff from Hospice of the Sacred Heart, who provided comfort and support to Joe's family in his final days, was deeply appreciated.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Immaculate Conception Church of Corpus Christi Parish, 605 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, Pa. Relatives and friends are invited to call from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday in the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Hunts For Healing, P.O. Box 728, Wyalusing, PA 18853; or Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E. D. Preate Drive, Suite 108, Moosic, PA 18507.
