Joyce Dombroski-Gebhardt Obituary

SWOYERSVILLE — Joyce Dombroski-Gebhardt, 64, of Swoyersville, passed away peacefully, with her family by her side Wednesday, Sept. 1, 2021, at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center.

Born in Sayre, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Nancy (Mills) Dombroski.

Joyce was a graduate of Dallas High School, Class of 1975. She earned her degree in Office Science Technology at Luzerne County Community College. She had various jobs over her lifetime including New Accounts Clerk at Prudential Bache Securities, Sales Assistant at E.F. Hutton & Co., Secretary to the Business Manager and Warden at State Correctional Institution-Dallas and Stenographer/Secretary at The Pentagon.

Joyce was active in numerous community affairs. She was Treasurer of the Republican Women of Luzerne County and served on the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections. She was a fierce defender of life in all forms especially in her love for the unborn. She gave a voice to the voiceless in Luzerne County and she was proud to share her conservative pro-life political views. She enjoyed volunteering at the polls for every election and was a proud supporter of Women for Trump. She was a hard worker, leader and always stood up for what she believed was right.

She volunteered for over 20 years at the Back Mountain Memorial Library Auction and was dedicated to operating the children's sand art tent. She loved spending time with her family at the beach and looked forward to getting together with her New Jersey friends in Wildwood Crest every year. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and cooking traditional Polish foods for her family. Joyce was a member of Saint Therese's Church in Shavertown for over 40 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Jacquelyn Gebhardt, son, Robert Gebhardt Jr. and his wife Jocelyn, daughter, Brittany Gebhardt and grandson, Connor Miller; brothers, Ronald Dombroski and Thomas Dombroski Jr., sister, Susan Dombroski Irvin and several nieces and nephews.

Joyce was a wonderful mother, loving grandmother and loyal friend. She was a light in this life who always put others ahead of herself and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandson more than anything. She was always spoiling her grand dogs, Carmen and Pedro, and loved her cat, Queenie, so much. She was one of a kind with a heart of gold and made this world a better place.

Joyce's family would like to thank the Geisinger Wyoming Valley ICU doctors, nurses and staff for their relentless compassion and kindness during one of the most difficult times in our life.

Our beautiful mother's legacy and love of life will be carried on through her children and grandson.

Funeral services will begin at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 8, at Harold C. Snowdon Funeral Home Inc., 140 N. Main St., Shavertown. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. from St. Therese's Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown. The Rev. James Paisley will serve as officiant. Interment will be held in Mt. Greenwood Cemetery, Shavertown, following Mass. Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

I am very sorry to learn of the the untimely passing of Joyce. Although we never met, we had been Facebook friends for a number of years and had much in common, including our strong political convictions, our faith and even our age. We both graduated in 1975 from different schools of course. I had always hoped to meet Joyce at a political rally or some similar occasion. My deepest condolences go out to her family especially her daughter Brittany.

Dear Gebhardt Family, I am so very sorry for your loss. I just found out about her passing yesterday, October 27th, in a very unexpected way. It truly was God's way of letting me know. I came home that day with a very heavy heart. Joyce and I had a very strong connection. We would meet each other and talk for hours on end. Also on the phone. She was an amazing women in so many ways and a strong women of faith as well. We also shared that to. I will never forget her love and unending kindness she showed to me and my late husband, Mark Gebhardt. She was so happy that we both came back together again after 39 yrs. She told Mark and I that she was praying that we would come together again and that her prayers were not only heard but answered. She and her daughter Brittany came to see us and Joyce was overwhelmed with joy concerning us and wanted us to share our story with her, So we did at the kitchen table. Joyce and Brittany also brought pizza with them as well. On another occasion we went over to their house and sat at their table and ate pizza and laughed and laughed so hard at the stories Mark came up with. Mark was acting up as he always did and brought so much laughter into our lives and so many others as well. I also remember meeting Joyce's father at her home to. He was a very nice man and accomplished much in his lifetime. We had such a good time visiting. The memories I have of her I will carry in my heart into eternity. I will miss her so very much. I felt in my heart that she was my sister-in law. I truly did. I will see her again in Heaven. Rest in Peace

I've known Joyce for about 35 years and have the utmost respect for her. I'll always consider her to have been a wonderful friend. We were the same age and had so much in common from love for our children to politics. When we got on the phone, you knew it was going to be a very long call even though we had said we were going to hang up 10 times and it always made us giggle. There was no such thing as a quick conversation between us. We could talk forever. I will miss her but I am grateful to have known her. And I will do whatever I can for Robert, Brittany, and Jackie, all they need do it call or text me and I will make time for them. Joyce would have done the same for my family. We were very much alike in many respects. I pray for healing and good memories for all of you.

What a beautiful tribute and legacy to your beautiful, caring, & loving mother, Joyce. She always put the interest of others before herself. She loved her beautiful children and grandson so very much, as she'd always tell us just how proud she was of all of them. She will greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. We're lifting all of you and her entire family in our prayers for peace, comfort, guidance and strength at this difficult time of loss. Our hearts are broken for all of you and our only solace is knowing she's in the presence of our Lord Jesus. Once I was told by a dear aging woman who lost her much younger family member, "why would God take him when he was doing so much good in service in this world for God?" The minister responded to her, "How do you not know that God can use her more on the other side?"
Made me teary-eyed just thinking it but it's the only way we can begin to make sense of losing such a beautiful cousin like Joyce, who was absolutely beautiful from the inside out. Her legacy will live on through all who knew her and especially through all of her beautiful children and grandson. We love you all
