Leonard Mulcahy Obituary

Leonard J. Mulcahy, 95 of Wyoming, passed away Friday afternoon, Aug. 29, 2025, at the Meadows Nursing Center, Dallas, with his wife, Maureen, by his side.

Born May 2, 1930, in Ashley, he was the son of the late Nicholas P. and Julia (Waitakunas) Mulcahy.

Lenny was a graduate of GAR Memorial High School, Wilkes-Barre, Class of 1948, and was a Korean War Veteran, serving from 1951 to 1954, stationed in Germany, serving as a medic. Upon his honorable discharge from active service with the rank of Sergeant, he attended Wilkes College on the GI Bill, earning his Bachelor of Science degree and majoring in accounting. He worked for RCA for many years, where he audited military bases, including White Sands in Albuquerque, N.M., and the Army base in Bahamas. Lenny then went on to open his own accounting practice, where he worked until he finally retired at 91.

Lenny was very active in community service during his life. He was president of the Greater Wilkes-Barre Junior Chamber of Commerce from 1958 to 1963 and later became president of the Wilkes-Barre Chamber of Commerce. One of his proudest achievements was the completion of Nesbitt Park Development Project by the Jaycee's in July of 1962. Lenny was also president of the Wilkes College Alumni Association in 1958.

He was preceded in death by his sons, Mark and Allen Mulcahy; his brothers, Paul, Bernard, Joseph and James Mulcahy.

Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Maureen Hine; daughters, Molly Evans, and her husband, Rick, Atlanta, Ga., and Johnna Stevenson and her husband, Rob. He was a proud grandfather of Stella Stevenson, Brandon Fiedorczyk, Steven Fiedorczyk, and his wife, Dr. Alison Schug Fiedorczyk, Samuel, Eli, Anna and Sarah Evans, Amanda Thomas and her husband, Alvin, and Shannon Mulcahy and her husband, Michael Hoffman; great-grandchildren, Jayden, Jayce and Jordan Thomas; nieces and nephews; and loving daughter-in-law, Missy Mulcahy Fischer, and husband, George.

Lenny was the most loving and caring husband. His favorite pastime was spending his days in the yard helping Maureen plant flowers and smoking his favorite cigar while watching his granddaughter Stella swim.

Special thank you to all of nurses and aides at the Meadows Nursing home along with Hospice of Sacred Heart, especially nurse Carey for being so kind.
