Margaret Petroski Obituary

M argaret P. Petroski, 90, of Kingston, passed away peacefully on Monday, April 24, 2006, at the Laurels Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Kingston.
She was born March 17, 1916, in Berwick, a daughter of the late John J. and Amy Westfall Hutchinson. She was a graduate of Berwick High School and the Wyoming Seminary School of Music. Mrs. Petroski was a certified tutor of the Laubaugh Literacy Program at the Hoyt Library, Kingston. She was an active member of St. Ignatius Church, Kingston, and its Altar and Rosary Society. She also belonged to the Ladies of Charity; the Pennsylvanians for Human Life, and the Red Hat Society.
Margaret was a volunteer for many years at the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital, and at area nursing homes. She also volunteered for eight years at the former Retreat State Hospital. Mrs. Petroski was named founder by the National Osteoporosis Foundation, Washington, D.C., for the Nesbitt Memorial Hospital osteoporosis prevention and support group of which she was co-facilitator. Along with her late husband, Peter E. Petroski, she owned and operated Peter’s Shoe Store in Wyoming.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Mary, and her five brothers and two sisters.
Surviving are sons Tom Petroski and his wife, Mary Jeanne, Wyoming; Bill Petroski and his wife, Donna, Wyoming; daughters Ann Machung and her husband, Frank, Hurley, NY; Jean Petroski, at home; 8 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. from Maher-Collins Funeral Home, 360 N. Maple Ave., Kingston, with funeral Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St. Ignatius Church. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Hudson. Friends may call Wednesday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: St. Ignatius Church, 339 N. Maple Avenue, Kingston, PA, 18704; Pennsylvanians for Human Life, 201 S. Main Street, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 18702; Hoyt Library, 284 Wyoming Avenue, Kingston, PA 18704, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
