Marian Shoener Obituary

Mrs. Marian R. Shoener, 89, a resident of Suscon Road, Pittston Township, died Thursday in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.
Mrs. Shoener was born in Pittston Township, a daughter of the late Fred and Matilda Shoup Rupert, and was a graduate of Pittston High School. She had been employed by Atlas Powder Co., Suscon, for several years and since 1958.
She had owned and operated Shoener’s Grocery Store, Prescott Avenue, Scranton, with her husband, Elmer H. Shoener, prior to his death in 1975. She had been a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, Scranton, and resided in the Suscon Section of Pittston Township most of her life.
She was preceded in death, in addition to her husband, by sisters, Mable Huthmaker, Ellen Smith, Estella Hatmaker and Lydia Himm.
Surviving are sons, Joseph J. and Allen T. Zaranick, both of Suscon; Carl D. Shoener and his wife Jen, Wilkes-Barre; and Gary H. Shoener and his wife Michele, Moscow; grandchildren Melanie Shedlock, Nikki Shoener and David Shoener; and several nieces and nephews.
A private funeral was held from the H. Merritt Hughes Funeral Home, 211 Luzerne Ave., West Pittston, with interment in Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
