Mark C. Santayana, 67, of Wyoming, passed away Monday, June 2, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family, after a sudden medical event.
He was born in Kingston, and was the son of the late Manuel (Bobe) Santayana and Yolanda (Lonnie) Castellani Santayana. Mark graduated from Bishop O'Reilly High School and York College, and received a master's degree in public administration from the University of Baltimore.
He retired from PPL Electric Utilities in 2021 as manager of public safety. He was elected to the Pennsylvania PUC Damage Prevention Committee as the electric industry representative, and served two three-year terms.
He was an accident prevention committee member for the Energy Association of Pennsylvania, and served on the best practices committee of the Common Ground Alliance. He was on the board of directors of Pennsylvania One Call Inc. for seven years, and was the board development chairman for four years.
Mark was an amazing, devoted husband to his high school sweetheart and beloved wife of 42 years, Sheryl Leitz Santayana. He was a dedicated proud father to his son Morgan Santayana, and his daughter Amy Santayana. Sheryl, Morgan and Amy love him beyond words, and will be lost without him until they meet again.
In addition to his wife and children, Mark was a loving and dependable brother to Manuel (Manny) Santayana, Luzerne; and Kurt Santayana (Susan), Luzerne.
He is also survived by godmother, Rosalie DeRocco; mother-in-law, Leona Leitz; and lifelong best friend, Michael Garrahan.
Arrangements are by Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, Luzerne, at the convenience of the family.
Memorial contributions may be made to Holy Family Parish, 574 Bennett St., Luzerne, PA 18709.

So very sorry to hear of Mark's passing. Our condolences to his wife and children. My family and Mark's family were quite close growing up, and Mark was your typical Middle Child. Fun loving, full of laughter and mischief, and a joy to be around, The last time I spoke with Mark was several years ago, at a gas station where we exchanged pleasantries like it was only a week since we saw one another, and not 20 years. Cherished memories and thoughts are offered for all the Santayana family.
