Matilda "Tillie" (Mruk) Drost, 96, of Dupont, passed away peacefully Friday, June 6, 2025, at Oakwood Terrace Nursing Center, Moosic. She was born in the Browns section of Avoca on Jan. 28, 1929, and was the daughter of the late, Stanley and Anne (Marcavage) Mruk.
Tillie was a devoted member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, and a graduate of Avoca High School. In her younger years, she worked cleaning office buildings in Kingston before spending the remainder of her career in the local garment industry where she eventually retired.
She loved traveling with her husband and her nieces and nephews. Tillie especially enjoyed attending Broadway shows in New York City and vacationing in South Carolina and in many other states. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Frank Drost, on Sept. 7, 2019; brothers: Stanley, Leo, Zigmund and Edward Mruk; and sisters: Eleanor Balara, Lagora Urbanski, Delores Robachefski, Regina Jurovsky and Della Romanczuk.
She is survived by her loving caretakers, Stanley and Debbie Budzilek, with whom she resided, as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Tillie's family extends heartfelt thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff of both Hospice of the Sacred Heart and Oakwood Terrace, for their kindness, compassion and excellent care.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, in Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 215 Lackawanna Ave., Dupont with Fr. Thomas Petro officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 11, at Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc., 255 McAlpine St., Duryea. Interment will be held in the Parish Cemetery. Family and friends are asked to go directly to the church on Thursday morning; There will be no procession from the funeral home.
