Michael Brislin Obituary

September 20, 2010

Michael J. Brislin, of the Petersburg section of Scranton, died late Monday, September 20, 2010, after being stricken ill. His wife is the former Linda Molnar. Born in Wilkes-Barre, he was a son of the late Joseph P. and Mary Alice Judge Brislin. He was of the Catholic faith, having attended St. Aloysius Church in Wilkes-Barre. Prior to retirement, he had been a self-employed pharmacist operating the former Medicine Shoppe at Petersburg Corners. Michael was an honest and caring man. He loved to debate politics and would do so with anyone who would engage him in such a debate. Michael loved a good hot dog from Abe's in Wilkes-Barre as well as watching the Eagles win. Michael was an amazing father who taught his daughter the importance of hard work, honesty and kindness. He was a brother and an uncle who kept track of all his family's achievements. He was a husband who was patient, kind and loved his family more than anything. He was also an esteemed pharmacist who truly cared about others and would go out his way to help them. He was recognized by the community by receiving many awards for his outstanding work. He will be greatly missed and loved always by his family and friends. He will always be remembered for his catchphrase "wathca huntin?" when someone was looking for something they had misplaced. Michael was preceded in death by a brother, Paul. Surviving are a daughter, Amy, and her fiancé, Bobby Krukovitz, of Scranton; sisters Anne White and her husband, Joe, and Julie Eichman and her husband Glen; brothers Drs. Robert and his wife, Marie; Dr. Thomas and his wife, Mary Ann; Mark and his wife, Pam; and Joe and his wife, Linda; in-laws Roman and Rosalie Molnar; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Blessing Service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Vanston and James Funeral Home, 1401 Ash St., Scranton. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. Cremation will follow services.

Thank you everyone for the kind words. I like to think that Mike is up there with nana and pop and paul eating marble squares, playing sports he loved and maybe even having conversations/debates with Ronald Reagan! I loved Mike and am so grateful for the wonderful life he gave. Mike gave me experiences and love that I will be forever grateful for. Mike was my dad and always made me feel loved and like he was proud of me. I am so thankful that I had the time I did with him.

Mike was my mentor in pharmacy school and taught me everything that I know today. He played a huge role in my education and development as a pharmacist. I wouldn't be the health care professional that I am today without his guidance. Thanks for all the wonderful times at the Medicine Shoppe, Mike!

To the family, When I think of Mike, the first thought that comes to mind is water skiing at the lake. While he did not participate he was the one who arranged it. Mike's consideration for others never took a back seat to his gentle & kind ways. Our thoughts & prayers are with you & I must say that as I ponder Mike, a bit of a smile comes to my face.
