KINGSTON — Michael E. Hosey, 69, passed away March 30, 2022, at his Kingston residence.
Born Feb. 14, 1953, Michael was the son of the late Atty. Edward Hosey and Marie Hosey. Michael was a life-long resident of Wyoming Valley, growing up a child of the '50s in a wonderful Plymouth neighborhood amongst so many cousins and friends and also lived at Harveys Lake. Not one to ever enjoy a leisurely dinner sitting around a table with family or friends, Michael from an early age was always on the go, often seen with a catcher's mitt or basketball in hand looking for a friendly game with neighborhood cousins and friends. He was a great sportsman and from an early age, being a red-headed Irish American (3rd generation), he was nicknamed speedy Alka Seltzer. He could run circles around older teenage boys in a game of basketball for sure, and coach Red Jones used to think so when he let him play with older basketball team members during practice sessions. He would read the sports page, at four years of age, and became so knowledgeable about athletes that he was the "go-to" when one had to recall a particular play on the baseball or football field or basketball court.
Michael often played basketball, whenever and wherever a team could be put together well into his early 50's. He enjoyed following many high school teams, and loved "coaching" neighborhood children, often giving some wonderful tips and challenges for anyone interested in learning a sport.
Michael had a great interest in history and was an avid reader all of his life. He enjoyed swimming, riding a bike and could often be seen in Kingston walking his dog or even the dog of a friend after they had a stroke. He was like that. He would help anyone, and had a great love of dogs, in particular Springer Spaniels (Kelly, Katey, Casey). He was so patient, kindhearted, and gentle with his animal friends.
Michael's residence displayed his Norman Rockwell prints and a variety of well cared-for house plants (a hobby he enjoyed).
Michael's wonderful wit and great sense of humor will be remembered by all who knew him. He was one of the kindest, caring human beings one could ever have had the privilege of knowing. He would be among the first to be there to comfort a friend during a loss of a loved one, or visit someone when they were ill; a true friend, and a kindhearted spirit.
Michael attended St. Vincent's grade school, Central Catholic High School and graduated from Wyoming Valley West. He graduated from College Misericordia where he majored in history.
He is survived by his brother, Edward Hosey (Ned) and Carol Sorber; his sisters, Patricia Kosloski and Catherine Hosey; and nephews, Ned, Jeff and David Hosey; nieces Colleen Roundhill and Leigh Ellen Kosloski Thering; great-nieces and nephews; uncle, Andrew Jack Barry; and of course many wonderful first cousins so very much a part of his childhood.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, April 9, at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Victory Church, Harveys Lake. The Rev. Louis Grippe will officiate. Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Harveys Lake Little League, PO Box 155, Harveys Lake, PA 18618, in order to purchase some much needed sports equipment.

I was very saddened to learn of Mike´s passing. I remember all the times when he and Bruce Gutterman and I would play basketball all summer long at Harveys Lake where our families would spend the summers. RIP Mike.

I have fond memories of Mike. I enjoyed playing basketball with him through the years or running into him with one of his dogs at his side. He was a good man and great athlete. He will be missed.

My sisters and I grew up with Michael and his family in Plymouth and at Harvey's Lake. The obituary was eloquent, especially on the fondness for dogs. The last time I saw Mike was at Mass at OLV at the Lake. A dog ambled up the church center aisle through the open door. Mike gently coaxed the dog out. From the alter, Father Grippe thanked Mike by name. To Cathy, Pat, Ned and family, we extend our deepest sympathy. Rest in Peace Michael.
