SHICKSHINNY — Michael J. Moyer Sr., 75, of Shickshinny, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, June 18, 2023.
Born in Allentown, raised in Bethlehem and Wilkes-Barre, he was the son of the late Kenneth E. and Mollie (Brislin) Moyer.
Michael was a graduate of E.L. Meyers High School and earned an Associate Degree in Applied Science Emergency Medical Services from Luzerne County Community College. He was also an adjunct faculty member at LCCC for the EMS/Paramedic program.
He honorably served in the U.S. Navy, as a hospital corpsman, during the Vietnam War where he was assigned to Antarctica under Operation Deep Freeze. After his military service, Michael joined the Wilkes-Barre City Fire Department as one of the first paramedics for the city until his retirement in 1998.
In addition to his time with the city, Michael was an Assistant Coroner for Wilkes-Barre City, assistant Boy Scout Leader for Troop 33, St. John's Lutheran Church, and van driver for Allied Services.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Ann Goodine and brother, Kenneth E. Moyer Jr.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Donna Moyer; sons, Michael Moyer Jr. and wife, Ann Marie, Florida; Jason Moyer and wife, Stacey, Virginia; Eric Moyer and wife Marybeth, Sweet Valley; daughter, Julie Dougalas and husband, Matthew, Wilkes-Barre; 12 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
The funeral service will be Friday at 10 a.m. at Kniffen O'Malley Leffler Funeral & Cremation Services, 465 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre. Interment with Military Honors will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township. Family and friends may visit Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Animal Resource Center, P.O. Box 439, Bloomsburg, Pa. 17815 or Huntington Valley Volunteer Fire Company, P.O. Box 51, Huntington Mills, Pa. 18622.

Mike was a close friend, paramedic peer, and a great clinical coordinator that always went out of his way for students. May his abilities and history serve as a template for those hitting the field. We had great times and conferences and I know I will see him soon. RIP Jim Johnson

I was a dispatcher when Mike joined the WB Fire Dept. He was a great EMT, always professional. He was also a real nice guy, abd he will be missed.
