HANOVER TWP. — Paul Louis Gibbon, 73, of Hanover Township, passed away Monday, Feb. 3, 2015.
He was a son of the late John L. and Marie (Lucarino) Gibbon. He was born Aug. 14, 1941, in Wilkes-Barre, and was a graduate of Meyers High School, class of 1959. He served in the U.S. Navy and later graduated magna cum laude from Luzerne County Community College and King's College, class of 1982.
Paul was employed by ARA Corporation for more than 20 years and the U.S. Postal Service as a mail carrier until his retirement in 2005.
Affectionately known as "Butch" by his family, Paul enjoyed fishing, picnics, summer vacations in Wildwood and taking his grandchildren to Knoebel's Amusement Park. He took great pride in his home and garden and enjoyed working on his cars. He was a loyal Philadelphia Eagles and Philadelphia Phillies fan and loved watching games with his son.
After retirement he and his wife enjoyed several cruises with friends, trips to New York City, Walt Disney World and the Florida Keys. Most of all, Paul loved getting together with his brothers and sisters and entire family.
At the age of 55, Paul was formally received into the Holy Catholic Church. He was very devoted to his church, St. Aloysius, where he served as CCD instructor, lector and was a long-time member of the Holy Name Society. He enjoyed playing cards and working at the parish bazaar for many years with fellow members.
In addition to his parents, Paul was preceded in death by several aunts and uncles, including his godfather and best man, Chester Lucarino.
Paul leaves behind his devoted wife, Joan (Passarelli), with whom he would have celebrated his 50th wedding anniversary on Feb. 27; daughter, Gina, and son, Paul, Hanover Township; daughter, Jill and her husband, Ray Lewis, Cedar Park, Texas; sisters, Jolyne and her husband, Dale Smith, Plains Township, Joan Scorey, Wilkes-Barre, Jean and her husband, Dennis Peters, Berwick, Faye and her husband, Leonard Pawlowski, West Nanticoke, Peggy and her husband, Chris Kennedy, Mountain Top; brothers, Jack and his wife, Mary, and David, Wilkes-Barre; sister-in-law, Sally (Passarelli) Daylida; grandchildren, Ray Lewis and his wife, Marisa, Bryan, Texas, Jamie, Scottie, Jacob and Kristen Lewis, Cedar Park; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday from Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service, 59 Parrish St., Wilkes-Barre, with a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish, St. Aloysius Church, Barney Street, Wilkes-Barre. Interment will be at Oak Lawn Cemetery, Hanover Township. Friends and family may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Mamary-Durkin Funeral Service.
