WEATHERLY — Robert C. Jais, 61, of Weatherly, passed away late Thursday evening at Lehigh Valley Hospital – Hazleton.
Born in Hazleton on October 2, 1960, Robert was the son of late Francis and Beatrice (Derr) Jais.
Robert was a member of Christ Lutheran Church in Hazleton. He also served as a member of several local organizations which included, Hazleton Archery Club, Broadband Communications Association of Pennsylvania, Society of Cable Telecommunications Engineers Pocono Chapter Loyal Order of 704 (SCTE) and the American Cable Association.
Robert was a great outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time outside breathing in the fresh air while hunting, fishing, and boating. His shooting skills drove him to become an excellent trap and skeet shooter. His true love however was astro-photography. That desire led him to build his own observatory at his home in Weatherly. He spent countless hours there enjoying the night sky.
Robert was a talented woodworker who had the ability to do fine woodcrafting as well as general construction and family home building.
He worked for 40 years in the cable industry and later became an engineering manager for Service Electric, Wilkes Barre. Robert was the behind the scenes go to person for the Cancer Society and Helping Hands Telethons.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his brother Jon Jais and his niece Megan Jais.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years the former Paula (Chernansky) Jais, brother Barry Jais and his wife Michele, nephew Christopher Jais and his wife Megan, great-nephews Jackson, Logan and Will and his beloved spaniels Anakin, Indy, Crosby, Mario, Geno and Tanger.
A memorial service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. from the Krapf and Hughes Funeral Home – Crematory 530 W. Butler Drive Drums, PA 18222
Friends and family are invited to a memorial visitation from 10 a.m. till the time of service.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to Save Our Allegheny Ridges at P.O. Box 178 Everett, PA 15527
