Rose Clifford

Rose G. (Manley) Clifford, 80, of Avoca, passed away early Tuesday morning, August 5, at St. Mary’s Villa Nursing Home, Elmhurst, Pa., following a long illness.
Rose was the wife of Alfred “Al” G. Clifford, who passed away November 19, 2007. In October 2007, Rose and Al celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Born in Scranton April 12, 1928, she was a native of the Bellevue section.
Rose was a daughter of the late Charles and Anna (Barrett) Manley. She was a former member of Holy Cross Church, Scranton. Rose attended St. Ann’s Monastery Elementary School and was a graduate of West Scranton High School, class of 1946. In her younger days, she worked for Eureka Specialty Printing Company, Scranton, and later for Laura Fashions, Avoca, as a seamstress. She went on to become a secretary, proudly serving as secretary/assistant to the registrar’s office of Marywood College. Rose was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and cousin. She was a devout Catholic and an active member of her church, St. Mary’s, of Avoca.
She is survived by a daughter, Diane Markofski; son-in-law James; granddaughters Genevieve and Andrea, of Barto, Pa. Rose also is survived by a brother, Charles Manley, and his wife, Rita, Scranton; sisters Annemarie Coles, Elmhurst, Pa.; Eileen Woelkers, Dunmore; Alice Grippi and her husband, Frank; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her sister, Mary Jane Henning.
Funeral services will be held Friday, August 8, at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services, 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church, Avoca. Fr. Phillip Sladicka will officiate. Friends may call Thursday, August 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery.
