Sarah Hudak Obituary
On Thursday, Nov. 3, 2005, our irreplaceable, special mom, gram and great-grandmother, Sarah Hudak, finished her work here and went on to Glory.
Born March 10, 1925, in Binghamton, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Eva (Baker) Loudenburg-Ross.
She attended Binghamton area public schools as well as West Junior High School. Having lost her beloved mother at age 13, she was forced to leave school at 15 to begin working as a live-in domestic for families of the Tri-City area. Eventually, she obtained employment at Ansco’s in Binghamton, a division of Eastman Kodak.
She spent long days inspecting film used in reconnaissance missions over enemy countries during World War II. For her professionalism and outstanding work, she was awarded the Service Medal from the U.S. government.
Her true love was her natural gift of sewing, which she began as a young girl. She was an expert, accomplished, professional seamstress throughout most of her adult life.
Having moved to Pennsylvania with her family in 1967, she began working for the Fashion Youth Center; Verna’s Feins Designer Shop, and eventually rose to the position of head bridal seamstress for the store.
Her retirement came too early on the heels of a stroke she suffered at 42. Her years were spent on a long journey of declining health. She spent those days creating masterpieces of art in all types of needlework and quilting.
Her greatest joy and fulfillment came from her granddaughter Naomi, who she steered and guided into adulthood.
Sadly, she leaves behind her daughters, Rebecca Brunner and husband, Gerald, Meshoppen; Wendy Whitesell and husband, Fred, Edwardsville; granddaughters, Naomi Reynolds and husband, Steven, Nicholson; Jessica Whitesell, Edwardsville; one grandson, Heath D. Rusinko, Wilkes-Barre; four great-grandchildren, Sara and Seth Reynolds, and Emma and Eva Whitesell; sister, Grace Marion Keys, Montrose.
She was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, William Loudenburg, Bessie Loudenburg Maglone, Arlene Loudenburg Pugh, Francis Ross, Betsy Ross Litwin; an infant sister, Ruth. Her first husband, Abdon Rodriquez passed away in 1980.
She will be missed terribly by all those who loved her. Her humor, philosophy on life, fierce independence, and most of all strength will live on with and within all of us.
A memorial service will be at 3 p.m. Sunday in Simon S. Russin Funeral Home, 136 Maffett St., Plains Township, with the Rev. Dr. Rudolph Leibeck officiating and words of inspiration by Terry Wiedlich.
Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. until service time.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Valley Cat Rescue or the SPCA.
