Sheldon Mertz Obituary

Sheldon Joel Mertz, 83, of Wilkes-Barre, passed away Friday, Oct. 10, 2025, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital.

Born in Scranton, he was the son of the late Harry and Ruth Kurlansky Mertz and was a graduate of Pittston High School. Sheldon was employed in sales and enjoyed listening to music.

Sheldon is survived by his son, Jacob Mertz of Wilkes-Barre; brother, Barry (Faye) and their children, Scott Mertz and Dr. Michelle (Julie) Mertz and their children, Micah Mertz and Maya Mertz; his sister, Linda Mertz Cohen and her daughter Marley Tannenbaum (David) and their sons, Zachery and Ezra. Sheldon was formerly married to Carolyn Mertz of Wilkes-Barre.

A graveside funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13, in West Pittston Jewish Cemetery, Wilkern Street, West Pittston.

Shiva will be observed from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sunday and Monday at 288 S. Franklin St., Wilkes-Barre.

Arrangements under the direction of Rosenberg Funeral Chapel Inc., Wilkes-Barre.
