Susan Philbin Obituary

April 4, 2011

Susan (Labaty) Philbin, LPN, 60, of Avoca, passed away Monday, April 4, at her home. She was born in Pittston, on September 28, 1950, and raised in West Pittston, she was the daughter of the late Joseph A. Labaty Jr. and Susan (Champi) Labaty. Susan was a member of St. Mary's Church, Avoca. She was a 1968 graduate of Wyoming Area High School. She was also a graduate of the Mercedian School of Practical Nursing, Scranton. Susan worked as a LPN for many years for Mercy Hospital, Scranton. Those who knew and loved Susan will remember her warmth, generosity and gentle spirit. She was the quintessential mother -- she loved to cook and bake, and caring for her family was central to her being. She possessed an enormous fondness for her grandsons and loved them deeply. Most cherished was her marriage to her husband, Gene, with whom she shared a close and enduring bond -- a depth of love, respect, and joy that inspired those who had the privilege of knowing this happily married couple. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Joseph A. Labaty III, who passed away September 15, 2006. She is survived by her husband of 35 years Eugene Philbin, her daughter, Kimberly and her husband, Patrick Bilbow, of Avoca; her son Eugene and his wife Miranda, of Pittston. Susan is also survived by her grandsons, Ciaran Patrick Bilbow, Brady Quinn Bilbow, and Reilly Robert Bilbow, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Funeral services will be held Friday April 8 at 9:30 a.m. from Kiesinger Funeral Services Inc. 255 McAlpine St., Duryea, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at St. Mary's Church Avoca, with Fr. Phillip Sladicka and Fr. Joseph Elston officiating. Friends may call Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Interment will be held at the parish cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 63 N Franklin St, Wilkes-Barre, PA 18701 or to Miles for Michael, 9 N. Main Street, Pittston, PA 18640.
