Thomas Andreas Obituary

Thomas E. Andreas, 75, of Pond Hill, passed away Friday, July 4, 2025, at his home.

He was born March 3, 1950, to Carl E. and Caroline (Strunk) Andreas. Tom was raised in Pond Hill on the farm and later worked with his father in logging and lumbering. He graduated from Greater Nanticoke Area School District in 1968 and Williamsport Area Community College in 1970 with an associate degree in forestry. He went on to complete training as a lumber grader at the National Hardwood Lumber Grader School in Memphis, Tennessee.

Tom worked as a supervisor of lumber mills on the Amazon River and in Canadian, Texas. He returned home and graded lumber all over the state of Pennsylvania, working 25 years for Catawissa Lumber.

Tom had strong ties with family, church and friends. He was active in the Pond Hill Ambulance Association. He enjoyed square dancing, reading, hunting and fishing. He has been in failing health since contracting COVID in fall 2021.

He is survived by a son, Matthew T. Andreas; sister, Kay Andreas Long; four nephews, Lee and Andrew Posey, Daniel and Carl Long; niece, Susan Long; and several grand nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Andreas Posey.

I met Tom when he was visiting the Catawissa Lumber plant in West Jefferson, NC. He and I hit off right away. We went exploring the mountain roads in North Carolina together, having no map and praying we found our way back. Fortunately, we made it back and were not abducted by the natives that lived up in those mountains. Tom was a gentle giant with a healthy appetite. We had dinner together a few times and I can attest that giants eat more than normal humans. Tom was always upbeat and smiling. Just a great human being. I was just talking about him to someone on July 4th, not knowing he had passed. How strange. I hadn't seen him since those days in North Carolina. I am saddened that I didn't. I know that God has accepted this kind soul into Heaven and he watches over us now. God bless you, Tom. I'll see you on the other side one day!

Tom was always so happy and kind to everyone. He was always willing to help at camps, in the church kitchen and pot lucks. We will miss him.
