Thomas Feeney Obituary

T homas Feeney of Overbrook Road, Shavertown, died Thursday, Nov. 10, 2005, at his home. Born in Larksville, he was a son of the late Thomas and Josephine (Egan) Feeney, he resided in Shavertown for the past 39 years. Mr. Feeney was a member of St. Theresa’s Church, Shavertown.
He was a 1954 graduate of Larksville High School and a 1961 graduate of Wilkes College.
He received his masters in guidance counseling at Syracuse University in 1966 and various certifications in many other education fields.
Mr. Feeney was president of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retires of Luzerne and Wyoming counties; a member of the National Association of Secondary School Principals and its Resolution Committee; the Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development; and the Luzerne County Principals Association.
He also was past-president of the Wyoming Valley Girls Basketball League from 1970-1982; past president of the Wyoming Valley Athletic Association from 1988-1990; and a member of District II Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association.
Mr. Feeney was principal of West Side Area Vocational-Technical School in Pringle for 25 years, retiring in 1991; an Air Force veteran; and a member of the Dallas American Legion Post 627.
Surviving are his wife of 42 years, the former Paula Duda; sons Kevin and his wife Robin, Wyncote, Pa.; Paul and his wife Dietre, Bethel, Vt.; Thomas, Shavertown; Brian and his wife Tracy, Shavertown; daughter Colette Belwoar and husband Peter, Devon, Pa.; brother John and his wife Rita, Vienna, Va.; grandchildren Peter and Gregory Belloar, Jacob, Madelyn, Gabriel, Emma, Dana, Ryan, Anthony, Chase and Dylan; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday from Andrew Strish Funeral Home, 11 Wilson St., Larksville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Theresa’s Church, 64 Davis St., Shavertown.
Interment will be in St. Vincent’s Cemetery, Larksville.
Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dallas American Legion Scholarship Fund, 730 Memorial Highway, Dallas, PA 18612; or Hospice Care of the VNA, 468 Northampton St., Edwardsville, PA 18704.

Tommy & I grew up together near Snyder's Corner in Larksville. Needless to say, his passing away is a very sad moment for me. There were other friends, but whenever I returned home, Tommy was the one who I always made an effort to visit.

Mr Feeney will be missed. I remember him as a great Principal when I attended West Side Area Voc-Tech in the early 70's. My sympathy and prayers go out to his family.
