Walter Garing Obituary

Walter F. Garing, age 85, of Honesdale, died in the Wayne Memorial Hospital, Honesdale. His wife, the late Carol Jeanne Hammonds, died in 1997.
Walter was born in Dickson City, the son of the late Benjamin and Carrie (Gredlein) Garing. He was a refrigeration service engineer and owned and operated W.F. Garing Company in Honesdale from 1949 until 1994. Walter served as a charter member for the Honesdale Chamber of Commerce and a founding member for the Honesdale Jaycees. He was a past member of the Texas Rod and Gun Club, F&M Blue Lodge, Honesdale, the Commandery and the Irem Temple Shrine, Wilkes-Barre. Walter served as a committeeman for the Wayne-Pike Boy Scouts Association and served as a former pack leader. He and his late wife hosted the Boy Scout Day Camp for several years. He was a member of the Tippie Canoe Club, The Albanel Explorers and the Greeley Men's Club. Walter was a member of the First Baptist Church of Honesdale. He was an avid outdoorsman and he especially enjoyed hunting and fishing on his property in Cherry Ridge.
He is survived by two sons, Lee Garing and his wife, Susan, of Honesdale; and Daryl J. Garing and his fiance, Victoria Borthwick, of Honesdale; a daughter, Nancy Piazza and her husband, Joseph, of Martin's Creek; two brothers, Emerson Garing and his wife, Betty, of Honesdale; and Benjamin Garing and his wife, Esther, of Honesdale; six grandchildren, Kendall Garing of Greendale, N.C.; Todd Garing of Perry Hall, Md.; Neil Piazza of Schaumberg, Del.; Tracy Piazza of Easton; Krista Osborne of Fetchburg, Ma.; and Jonathan Garing of Honesdale; two great-grandchildren, Alexander and Jenna Garing of Perry Hall, Md.; several nieces and nephews.
The funeral services will be held on Wednesday, January 19, 2005, at 1 p.m. at the Arthur A. Bryant Funeral Home, 1228 Main Street, Honesdale, PA, with the Rev. Mark Heiner of the First Baptist Church of Honesdale officiating.
Friends may visit the funeral home on Tuesday, January 18, 2005, from 7-9 p.m. and Wednesday morning from 10:30-12:30 p.m.
Burial will be in the Darling Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
