EXETER — William J. Gilligan, 66, of Exeter, passed away Tuesday, April 23, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Bill was born in Pittston to the late James and Alice (Drew) Gilligan. He graduated from Wyoming Area High School, Class of 1976, and enlisted in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Germany. After his military service, he started his career as one of the first employees for Pride Mobility, where he was a warehouse supervisor and worked for 23 years. He later worked for Core Mark, as a truck driver.
In his younger years, Bill was an avid outdoorsman. He loved all sports, especially playing golf. He received a special ring for bowling a 300, and was the biggest Notre Dame and New York Yankees fan. He loved going on cruise vacations with his wife and friends, and really enjoyed spending time with all who knew him. During his downtime, he could be found walking his best fur friend, Sophie, and spending all of his time with his wife, best friend and love of his life, Debbie.
In addition to his parents, William was preceded in death by his sister, Marita Ann Gilligan. William is survived by his beloved wife, Debbie; son, William (Bonnie) Gilligan Jr.; daughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Fish; grandchildren: William Gilligan III, Mara Gilligan, Kailyn Culbertson; brothers: James (Butch) Gilligan , Frank Gilligan; sisters: Fran Lisewski, Pat (Bill) Bartuski, Karen Rushton, Maryann Gilligan, Lynn Gilligan, Beth (Bob) Warner, and Judy (Kenny) Oberst; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
In lieu of a service, a celebration of life will be held at the convenience of the family at a later date.
Final arrangements are being made through Metcalfe Shaver Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the SPCA in Bill's memory, as he was an avid animal lover.
